Nihon Kohden Introduces Life Scope E7 Patient Monitoring System in India

Japanese medical device manufacturer Nihon Kohden Corporation has introduced its Life Scope E7 (BSM-5700 series) patient monitoring system in India, marking the product’s entry into the South Asian market after receiving regulatory clearance earlier this year.

Import licence approval for the system was received by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) in February 2026, making it ready to be launched commercially in the nation. The official launch of the system will be held on 16 April 2026.

Life Scope E7 is a highly sophisticated multiparameter monitor that finds use in critical care units, emergency departments, operation theatres, neonatology, and other patient areas. It comes in two variants having screens measuring 15.6 inches and 12.1 inches each, with both being touchscreen systems.

As per the technical details provided by the manufacturer, the monitor can record up to 120 hours of patient trends and keep logs on waveform and alarm history. Also, it is possible to simultaneously track multiple physiological variables, including electrocardiography (ECG), oxygen saturation (SpO2), blood pressure (BP), temperature, carbon dioxide (CO2), anaesthetic gases, and neurophysiological variables like electroencephalogram (EEG) and aEEG.

This system incorporates several proprietary measurement technologies from the firm, such as CO2 sensing and automated blood pressure algorithms. It also allows for blood pressure trigger functions to be activated automatically based on physical changes that are detected. It can also calculate other cardiac measurements using an ECG.

This product is meant to be integrated with the hospitals’ systems and thus enables communication with ventilators, anesthesia machines, and EMR systems using HL7 protocols. The product also offers secure network communication capabilities.

As industry watchers have indicated, there has been increasing adoption of such devices as being components of a larger health information technology ecosystem, particularly in light of initiatives like India’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

The Indian business operations of Nihon Kohden commenced in 2011, which further grew through acquisitions and investments, such as adding diagnostics in 2017 and establishing a manufacturing unit at Jhajjar, Haryana in 2023 as part of the Make in India policy of the government.
