Radisson Launches First Verified Net Zero Hotel

Radisson opens its first Verified Net Zero hotel in Manchester, featuring 100% renewable energy and zero waste.

Radisson Launches First Verified Net Zero Hotel

Radisson Hotel Group has marked a major milestone in sustainable hospitality with the launch of its first-ever Verified Net Zero property—Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre. The hotel, which is also the first Radisson-branded property in Manchester, reflects the company’s commitment to reshaping the future of hospitality with carbon-conscious practices. Strategically located next to the AO Arena and Manchester Victoria Station, the hotel is designed to serve modern business and leisure travelers with both luxury and environmental responsibility at its core.

In an industry-first, the hotel has achieved Verified Net Zero status by aligning with the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels 2040—decades ahead of the goal. This means it operates entirely on renewable energy and emits no fossil-fuel-based emissions across its operations. Through features like induction cooking, electric heating systems, and spa amenities powered by renewable sources, the hotel eliminates the use of gas entirely. Advanced heat pumps replace traditional gas-powered hot water systems, and all functions, including lighting, heating, and cooking, run on 100% renewable electricity.

“This is a very exciting moment for us, not just because we are introducing the Radisson brand to Manchester, but because we are doing it in a way that aligns with the future of the planet,” said Jens Brandin, General Manager of Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre. “Achieving Verified Net Zero status is a proud moment for our team and a statement of our long-term commitment to sustainability.”

Radisson’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint extend beyond its own energy use. The Verified Net Zero designation includes Scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 (indirect energy emissions), and Scope 3 (supply chain and operational emissions), making this achievement comprehensive and impactful. Any residual emissions are addressed through carbon removal initiatives in partnership with Agreena, which supports regenerative agriculture practices across 4.5 million hectares of farmland in Europe. These nature-based solutions allow the hotel to actively contribute to long-term carbon sequestration.

In a move that redefines sustainable dining in the hospitality sector, Radisson partnered with carbon footprinting platform Klimato to develop low-carbon menus for its restaurants, room service, and meeting venues. The food offerings have been meticulously redesigned to reduce emissions by up to 40% per dish without compromising taste or quality. Each menu item now includes carbon labeling, allowing guests to make informed, eco-friendly dining choices.

According to Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer of Radisson Hotel Group, this initiative is more than a singular achievement—it’s the beginning of a larger transformation. “For the first time, we’re taking a holistic approach to reducing emissions, covering energy use, hotel operations, and the broader supply chain. Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre is a cornerstone in our journey toward Verified Net Zero across our global portfolio.”

Beyond its environmental impact, the hotel offers a premium guest experience rooted in wellness and comfort. All 252 rooms and suites are designed with Scandinavian influences, neutral palettes, and natural materials, creating a calming and health-conscious ambiance. Guests can unwind at the tranquil spa, enjoy the heated indoor pool, work out in a fully equipped gym, or dine at the on-site restaurant featuring an outdoor terrace. The hotel’s meeting and event facilities can host up to 220 attendees, making it a preferred choice for corporate and social functions alike.

Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre also aligns with the city’s vibrant cultural and entertainment landscape. Its central location allows easy access to Manchester’s most iconic landmarks, shopping districts, and entertainment venues, offering guests a seamless blend of sustainability and city exploration.

Crucially, the hotel follows a strict zero waste-to-landfill policy. It incorporates a robust Reduce, Reuse, Recycle framework that ensures minimal environmental impact from daily operations. Waste management protocols are closely monitored and optimized to maintain efficiency and adherence to Radisson’s broader sustainability goals.

This Manchester launch is just the beginning of Radisson Hotel Group’s Verified Net Zero journey. The brand is set to open its next Verified Net Zero property—Radisson RED Oslo City Centre—in July, signaling the group’s growing momentum toward sustainability-led hospitality across Europe.

“Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre is more than just a place to stay—it’s a destination where people can unwind, recharge, and enjoy the best of Manchester without compromising on their environmental values,” Brandin added. “We’re proud to lead the way for a new era of travel, one that is both luxurious and responsible.”

As Radisson Hotel Group continues to innovate and invest in green technologies, its commitment to net zero hospitality serves as a model for the global hotel industry, inspiring others to follow suit in creating a more sustainable future.
