Amazon has  blazoned a  corner  cooperation with nuclear technology  inventorX-Energy, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Corporation( KHNP), and energy  results provider Doosan Enerbility, setting the stage for a new  period of advanced nuclear energy deployment in the United States. The collaboration aims to gauge  the use of advanced small modular reactors( SMRs) to meet the  fleetly growing energy demands driven by data centers and artificial intelligence( AI)  structure. This move marks one of the most significant  way by a global technology  mammoth to harness nuclear  invention in addressing the binary challenge of sustainability and exponential energy consumption.

The  advertisement builds on Amazon’s  before collaboration withX-Energy, unveiled last time, which  concentrated on planting  further than 5 gigawatts of SMR  systems across the U.S. by 2039. Amazon also took a  commanding  part in backingX-Energy’s  charge, with its Climate Pledge Fund heading a$ 700 million round to accelerate the commercialization of the company’s nuclear technologies. This design enables the energy to  repel extreme temperatures without melting, dramatically reducing the  threat of energy failure or radioactive release. By removing the need for massive constraint  installations traditionally associated with nuclear  shops, the technology represents a transformative  vault forward in both safety and scalability. The company’s flagship reactor, the Xe- 100, is a high- temperature gas- cooled reactor that operates above 750 °C. Containing  further than  200,000 TRISO-X-based energy pebbles, the Xe- 100 is  finagled for  nonstop gyration and  graveness- fed fueling, enabling  continued operations for over to 60 times. The reactor’s design also leverages helium rotation through the core to capture heat, which is  also used to  induce brume for turbines, delivering a  harmonious  force of carbon-free energy.   

Under the new strategic  cooperation, Amazon andX-Energy will join forces with KHNP, Doosan, and other Korean artificial  mates to accelerate the deployment of Xe- 100 reactors and TRISO- X energy across the United States. The group has outlined a vision to  rally as  important as$ 50 billion in public and private capital to bolster the future of nuclear energy and support the  structure  demanded for large- scale rollouts. Doosan will be assigned with securing manufacturing capabilities to produce Xe- 100 modules, while KHNP brings decades of  moxie, having  erected and operated 36 nuclear power  shops since 1971.  X-Energy CEO J. Clay vend emphasized the  major significance of the collaboration, stating that the combination of American and Korean  moxie was critical to advancing nuclear  invention. He noted that South Korea’s artificial  force chain offered unique advantages in scaling  product, and  stressed the  cooperation as central to  icing U.S. leadership in the AI- driven energy race while  situating the country ahead of China in nuclear development.

While the company committed in 2019 to match all electricity consumption across its global operations with 100 renewable energy by 2030, it surprised  numerous in July 2024 by declaring that it had  formerly reached its clean energy target seven times ahead of schedule. Yet, in the same breath, Amazon  conceded that the  unknown growth of generative AI was altering its energy line. Unlike conventional operations, AI models and the vast data centers powering them bear immense,  dependable, and  nonstop energy sources that renewables alone may not completely meet. As a result, Amazon has begun diversifying beyond wind and solar, investing over$ 1 billion in nuclear  systems and technologies in just the  once time.   

Amazon Web Services( AWS), which operates the company’s massive network of data centers, has been at the  van of this transition. Vibhu Kaushik, AWS’s Head of Worldwide Energy,  stressed the growing urgency of securing carbon-free energy at scale. He described data centers as the backbone of AI leadership and noted that the pace of  client demand was driving the need for bold  results. Kaushik said that partnering with KHNP, Doosan, andX-Energy would  insure the development of over 5 gigawatts of new nuclear capacity in the U.S.,  buttressing Amazon’s position as a global leader in clean technology relinquishment.   

For Amazon, the  cooperation represents  further than just an energy  result — it signals a strategic pivot in the race to dominate the AI  period. With its  pall  structure powering much of the world’s digital frugality, AWS’s capability to  give  dependable, sustainable, and affordable energy will be a decisive factor in maintaining its competitive edge. Nuclear energy, particularly in the form of SMRs, offers a pathway to carbon-free baseload power that can operate continuously, completing intermittent renewable sources.   The broader counteraccusations  of the deal extend beyond Amazon’s operations. It also highlights the strengthening of U.S.- South Korea cooperation in critical technology sectors, further aligning the two nations on energy security, sustainability, and competitiveness in the AI- driven global frugality.
