Ample Group Conducts Beach Clean-up Drive At Chennai’s Besant Nagar
Ample Group organised a beach clean-up at Besant Nagar, Chennai, clearing over 521 kg of waste with 140 volunteers.
Ample Group, on Friday, said it has launched a beach clean-up initiative on behalf of Our Oceans by organising a large-scale clean-up at Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai. It was a tangible step in its sustainability and environmental stewardship efforts. The objective of the clean-up was to remove waste along an important stretch of Chennai’s coastline, supporting marine ecosystems and ensuring cleanliness on a popular shoreline.
As per the company, the clean-up was part of an overall strategy by Ample Group to take measurable action toward fulfilling its sustainability commitment. By engaging employees from multiple levels within the company, the clean-up represented the value of collaborative, accountable approaches in impacting the environment.
More than 140 volunteers from Ample Group participated in the beach clean-up at Besant Nagar Beach, beginning near the Karl Schmidt Memorial. During the one-hour clean-up, volunteers collected a combined total of 521.67 kg of mixed wet and dry waste from the beach, which demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when people work together.
Given that this time of year is also the turtle nesting season along the Chennai coast, the clean-up was of particular importance. Nesting and hatching turtles require clean sandy areas to successfully reproduce, and the continued presence of plastic and other debris has a negative impact on marine life and contributes additional environmental stress.
The event organisers reported that almost 100 hours' worth of labour was completed by the group of volunteers in about an hour, confirming that purposeful volunteer mobilisation helps to solve environmental issues in a city's coastal areas. As a result, they demonstrated the effectiveness of properly managing and mobilising volunteers on behalf of your organisation when tackling local environmental issues in your community.
This event aligns with Ample Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives to create a balance between business growth and providing long-term value for both environmental and social benefit.
That company said that the Besant Nagar Beach was selected because of its significance as an Environmental Area on the coast in an area that receives a large number of people each day, regardless of whether they are residents or tourists. The accumulation of waste is a constant issue in this area, and therefore, it was identified as a focus area for clean-up and conservation efforts. Through partnership with the proper governmental agencies and environmental partners, this event provided assurance that all waste would be cleaned up in the proper manner and in accordance with proper environmental practices.
In order to reinforce proper disposal and recycling practices, all waste collected during the clean-up event was separated before being disposed of or recycled. The purpose of this practice was to reduce waste disposal impacts to the landfill and reinforce responsible waste disposal practices well after the event was completed.
Ample Group has stated that sustainability initiatives produced will continue beyond one-time events. The organisation also seeks to develop additional programs related specifically to Environmental Conservation, Community Engagement and Sustainable Operational Practices throughout the organisation's business ecosystem.
The company's beach clean-up event at Besant Nagar was an example of Ample's efforts towards aligning the operational size of the organisation to meet the social and environmental responsibility of the organisation. This event represents another example of practical response and local engagement, while complementary to the larger conversations regarding the role of corporations in protecting the environment and supporting the health of communities.
