Andhra Pradesh has reaffirmed its commitment to providing 24x7 reliable power supply, expanding green energy capacity, and maintaining stable electricity tariffs for consumers.
Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has reiterated the state government's commitment to maintaining stable electricity tariffs while ensuring uninterrupted power supply and accelerating the adoption of green energy across the state. The minister said there will be no power tariff hike in the near term, with the government prioritising consumer welfare, energy security and sustainable growth.
As per the Minister, the energy policy of the government aims at ensuring round-the-clock quality supply of power to residents, industries, and business establishments as well as improving the fiscal position of the power sector. He further pointed out that the government was trying to increase operational efficiency, reduce cost of electricity procurement, and improve the reliability of power distribution network.
One of the important elements of the policy of the state includes the creation of additional capacities for renewable energy production. Andhra Pradesh is one of the states that has started actively promoting solar, wind and energy storage projects in order to improve the energy base and decrease dependency on traditional sources of energy production.
The minister pointed out that there is an ongoing effort to enhance the infrastructure within the state through the construction of substations, installation of transmission lines and distribution network upgrade. All these efforts are geared towards minimizing transmission losses, overcoming low voltage problem and improving supply of electricity to consumers in cities as well as rural areas.
Additionally, the government is pursuing its green energy initiatives such as roof-top solar projects and clean energy initiatives for farmers. It is thought that such initiatives will be useful in increasing the percentage of green energy in the state’s energy basket, while also meeting the country’s clean energy targets.
Industry observers note that Andhra Pradesh's attempt to ensure both tariff stability and expansion of renewable energy production capability can be seen in the light of a larger attempt to strike a balance between the needs of consumers and those of building a robust power sector.
