India Showcases Women Empowerment and Rural Growth at IFAD

The Government of India stressed its achievements in pastoral metamorphosis, women’s commission, and climate-flexible husbandry at the IFAD–India Day event held in Rome. The event celebrated India’s long-standing cooperation with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and showcased how cooperative efforts have delivered scalable and inclusive development on issues. Crucial themes bandied included pastoral development, women’s commission, climate-flexible husbandry, India–IFAD cooperation, and sustainable livelihoods, reflecting India’s growing leadership in global development cooperation.

The event brought together elderly officers from the Government of India and IFAD to reflect on nearly five decades of cooperation aimed at perfecting pastoral livelihoods. IFAD President Mr. Alvaro Lario praised India’s approach to community-led development and described several India–IFAD enterprises as global reference models. Conversations emphasized inclusive growth, pastoral livelihoods, climate action, women-led development, and South-South cooperation, italicizing India’s part as a development mate for the Global South.

India’s Vision for Inclusive and Sustainable Pastoral Growth

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Anu Mathai, the fresh Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and India’s Alternate Governor to IFAD, stressed that India’s engagement with IFAD is embedded in participated values. She stated that the cooperation isn't limited to fiscal backing but is guided by a common vision that places pastoral communities at the center of development planning and perpetration.

Mathai noted that IFAD has been a harmonious and trusted mate in supporting India’s efforts to gauge innovative, indifferent, and sustainable livelihood models. According to her, community participation, original power, and sustainability are the keystones of India’s pastoral development strategy, which aligns nearly with IFAD’s global accreditation.

Nearly Five Decades of Collaboration and Impact

Over the course of 48 times, India and IFAD have concertedly supported 36 pastoral development systems with a combined value of US$ 4.4 billion. Of this, IFAD has directly contributed US$ 1.5 billion, reflecting the depth of the cooperation. At present, six ongoing systems with a total value of US$ 459 million are being enforced across colorful countries in India.

India presently maintains a co-financing rate of 2.65 with IFAD, which is significantly more advanced than global par. This strong rate demonstrates India’s power of development enterprise and confidence in the issues achieved through collaboration. The systems concentrate on enhancing inflows, strengthening institutions, and erecting adaptability among vulnerable pastoral communities.

Transforming Lives Through State-Position Interventions

The India–IFAD portfolio spans different topographies and socio-profitable surroundings, addressing region-specific challenges. In Meghalaya, IFAD-supported interventions have bettered access for thousands of pastoral enterprises, enabling them to integrate into value chains and ameliorate profitability. In Maharashtra, enterprises have concentrated on expanding employability and income-generation openings for women, contributing to profitable independence and social commission.

In Jammu and Kashmir, systems have strengthened climate adaptability for small and borderline growers, helping them acclimatize to changing rainfall patterns and safeguard agrarian productivity. Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, income improvement enterprises have played a crucial part in reducing torture-driven migration by creating sustainable livelihood openings within pastoral communities.

Women’s Groups as a Global Model

One of the crucial highlights of the event was India’s encyclopedically recognized model of women’s groups. These groups, which began as small savings groups, have evolved into strong, profitable institutions driving original development. The model has empowered women socially and economically, advanced ménage inflows, and strengthened community governance structures.

IFAD officers noted that India’s experience with women-led groups offers precious assignments for other developing countries seeking inclusive and participatory development models. The scalability and sustainability of these institutions make them applicable beyond public borders.

Continued Commitment to Partnership

Jujjavarapu Balaji, Alternate Endless Representative of India to IFAD, reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening its cooperation with the organization. He emphasized the need to gauge successful approaches and equip pastoral communities to respond effectively to arising challenges similar to climate change, request volatility, and technological transitions.

As a launching member of IFAD and one of its largest contributors, India continues to play a commanding part in South-South and Triangular Cooperation. By participating in pastoral institution structure, value chain development, and climate-smart husbandry, India is supporting development efforts across the Global South.

Looking Ahead: Shared Pretensions for Rural Communities

India and IFAD concluded the event by reaffirming their participated commitment to strengthening pastoral institutions, structuring chops, expanding access to requests and services, and enabling communities to lead their own development. The cooperation aims to ensure that pastoral growth remains inclusive, sustainable, and flexible in the face of global challenges.

The IFAD–India Day in Rome underlined India’s emergence as a global leader in pastoral development and its continued fidelity to cooperative, community-driven results that ameliorate lives and livelihoods.
