India concluded its BRICS Chairship 2026 with the 3rd BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting, where member countries adopted a framework for cooperation on sustainable transport, logistics and mobility.
India successfully hosted the BRICS Chairship 2026 by organizing the 3rd Meeting of BRICS Transport Ministers in Nagpur. This was an important move for strengthening transport cooperation among members of the group. A ministerial declaration was adopted, whereby a common framework of cooperation has been defined.
The declaration addressed issues of infrastructure circularity, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), transport decarbonisation, Urban Mobility Hub, Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation and the BRICS Railway Research Network. By following a consensus-based and participative approach, the transport ministers and heads of delegation were able to reach an agreement on the declaration, showcasing collective commitment in all the priority areas and embodying the spirit of 'BRICS' mutual respect, equality and consensus.
The 3rd BRICS Transport Working Group Senior Officials' Meeting took place on 9-10 July, where the outcomes of the agenda were finalised, followed by the ministerial meeting on Saturday. The four-day programme also included bilateral meetings and cultural shows highlighting the rich cultural diversity of the BRICS countries.
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari expressed gratitude to all members of the delegation for their cooperation in the success of the ministerial meeting. India thanked all BRICS member countries for their constructive engagement and valuable inputs, which helped in the successful conclusion of the meeting. India also reiterated its efforts for the continuity and transition of these initiatives to the next BRICS Chairperson.
The summit served as a forum where transport ministers and top officials from the BRICS member countries could exchange views and build up inter-personal relations among each other.
