Delhi-NCR Braces for Rain, Gusty Winds as Temperature Nears 42°C

Delhi-NCR is likely to see a shift in weather conditions on Friday, June 19, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast chances of very light to light rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in the region. The expected weather activity may provide some relief from the ongoing hot conditions, although temperatures are likely to remain high during the day.

According to the forecast by IMD, Delhi-NCR might experience some showers and thunderstorms between June 19 and June 21. As per the weather forecast, there will be a partly cloudy sky for June 19, along with strong surface winds blowing throughout the day.

The wind speed is forecasted to range between 40 kmph and 50 kmph and the gusts could touch 60 kmph. Dust storms and lightning & thunderstorms are also included in the forecast.

Temperature likely to touch 42°C in Delhi today

Despite the possibility of rain, Delhi is expected to experience hot weather conditions. The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 40°C and 42°C, while the minimum temperature may stay between 27°C and 29°C.

The IMD has predicted that the minimum temperatures will be near-normal in all regions, while the maximum temperatures will be above-normal by 1.6 degrees Celsius to 3 degrees Celsius in several places in Delhi.

Winds are expected to blow mainly in the westerly direction. The winds could blow at around 15 kmph during the morning, go up to 20 kmph during the afternoon, and again rise up to 25 kmph during the evening and night.

The IMD forecast stated, “Possibility of very light/light rain with thunderstorm/ lightning/dust storm and strong winds speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph towards forenoon/afternoon.”

What Will be the Weather on June 20 and June 21

This weather pattern will continue for the next two days where there will be partly cloudy skies, along with a chance of precipitation, along with thunderstorms and strong wind.

Weather prediction for Delhi indicates moderate to heavy showers during afternoons and evenings on June 20. The maximum temperature will be between 36°C and 38°C, whereas the minimum temperature will be between 28°C and 30°C. The maximum temperatures are expected to remain below normal by 1.6°C to 3°C in most places.

On June 21, the weather conditions will show possibilities of showers during afternoons and evenings, lightning, and winds. The maximum temperature can be between 36°C and 38°C, while the minimum temperature will be between 29°C and 31°C.

Heatwave conditions continue in several states

As Delhi-NCR experiences temporary respite in the form of rains and wind, the rest of the nation will experience heat wave. As per IMD’s forecast, heat waves will occur in scattered places of Bihar, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Odisha on 18th June and East Uttar Pradesh from 18 to 24th June.

Also heat waves will occur in Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana and Vidarbha regions from 18 to 20th June and West Uttar Pradesh on 19 and 24th June.

Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Konkan and Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema will experience hot and humid weather in the coming days.

Southwest monsoon likely to advance further

According to the press release by the IMD dated June 18, the prevailing circumstances favor the advance of the southwest monsoon into additional regions of Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and some regions of Chhattisgarh in the coming four to five days.
