Essar Green Mobility aims for a $1 billion business by 2028 as it expands a 10,000-vehicle fleet of LNG and electric trucks, driving down diesel use and decarbonising India’s logistics sector.
Essar Green Mobility Unveils $1 Billion Plan to Scale LNG and Electric Trucks
$1 Billion Investment to Transform Heavy-Duty Transport
Essar Green Mobility, part of the Essar Group, has announced plans for a $1 billion (₹8,850 crore) investment over the next three years to scale up a fleet of heavy-duty LNG and electric trucks across India. With 700 LNG trucks already deployed, the company aims to expand this number to 10,000 vehicles — directly targeting the long-haul transport sector, which accounts for nearly 45% of national crude oil (diesel) consumption.
Dual Growth Strategy: LNG for Long Routes, EVs for Cities
Board Member B. C. Tripathi emphasized a two-pronged growth plan: rapid deployment of LNG trucks for long-distance routes and electric trucks for short-haul and urban logistics. The initiative is backed by an integrated ecosystem — manufacturing by Blue Energy Motors, fleet management by Greenline, and fueling infrastructure provided by Ultra Gas & Energy — creating a seamless end-to-end clean logistics model.
Emission Reductions and Climate Alignment
Essar projects that this model will reduce logistics-related carbon emissions by 40%, nearly eliminate sulfur oxides (SOx), and cut nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions by half. These improvements align with India’s national decarbonisation strategy, while also improving urban air quality and lowering dependence on imported fossil fuels.
Future Roadmap: Biofuels and Infrastructure Expansion
Looking ahead, Essar Green Mobility plans to build out biofuel complexes and expand refueling infrastructure across key corridors. These investments will not only advance India’s net-zero 2070 goals but also generate new revenue streams for industrial transport clients seeking to decarbonise their value chains.
