First BRICS Nuclear Platform Expert Panel Held in China to Strengthen Global Nuclear Cooperation
The panel provided a critical opportunity for nuclear newcomer countries to engage with leading experts and explore collaborative project development within the BRICS framework
There is a large and as yet untapped potential for joint work between BRICS organisations and partners,” said Artem Goncharuk, Director General of Rosatom East Asia, as the first BRICS Nuclear Platform expert panel convened in China on 29 April 2025.
Held on the sidelines of the CIENPI–2025 exhibition, the panel—titled “Key Factors Impacting the Development of Nuclear Power”—marked a significant step in deepening collaboration among BRICS nations and their partners in the global nuclear energy space. The session drew participation from key government agencies, industry leaders, and international organisations including the ASEAN Centre for Energy and the World Nuclear Association (WNA).
Moderated by Beijing Review journalist Tao Xing, the discussion focused on modern solutions for nuclear resource allocation, technological trends, and joint efforts toward energy security and sustainable development.
Elsie Pule of South Africa, Head Coordinator of the BRICS Nuclear Platform, and Celso Cunha, President of Brazil’s ABDAN, delivered opening remarks, setting the tone for a dialogue that also addressed how nuclear applications—beyond energy—can tackle social and environmental challenges.
“Young specialists in the nuclear industry need the support of experienced experts from countries with advanced technologies,” noted Chen Xin, Deputy Director of China’s Uranium Resources Department at SNURDC, underlining the event’s value as a knowledge-sharing platform.
The panel provided a critical opportunity for nuclear newcomer countries to engage with leading experts and explore collaborative project development within the BRICS framework.
The next session of the BRICS Nuclear Platform expert panel will take place on 21 May 2025 in Brazil during the Nuclear Trade & Technology Exchange (NT2E) exhibition and conference.
