Google partners with TotalEnergies for 1.5 TWh solar power to run Ohio data centers and advance 2030 net-zero goal.

Google, TotalEnergies Ink 15-Year Solar Power Deal

Google and TotalEnergies have entered into a 15- time renewable energy Power Purchase Agreement( PPA) to supply Google with clean electricity from TotalEnergies’ Montpelier solar  ranch in Ohio. The agreement,  blazoned on November 12, 2025, marks a significant step toward Google’s ambition of operating entirely on carbon-free energy by 2030 and demonstrates the growing collaboration between technology and energy companies in driving the global transition to renewables.

Under this new agreement, TotalEnergies will  give Google with 1.5 terawatt- hours( TWh) of  pukka  renewable electricity, sourced from the Montpelier solar  installation, which is nearing completion. This  force will power Google’s data centers in the Ohio region, a  crucial  mecca for the company’s North American operations. The  design will be connected to the PJM Connection, the largest electricity grid in the United States,  icing stable and  dependable power delivery while contributing to the decarbonization of the indigenous grid.

For Google, the deal aligns  nearly with its long-standing commitment to sustainability and its broader environmental  pretensions. The company aims to achieve net zero emigrations across its operations and value chain by 2030. A  crucial part of this ambition is its 24/7 Carbon- Free Energy( CFE) action, which seeks to  insure that every Google  installation operates on carbon-free energy every hour of every day, in every region where it functions. This agreement with TotalEnergies is another step toward making that  thing a reality.

Since 2010, Google has been one of the largest commercial purchasers of renewable energy in the world. To date, it has  inked over 170 clean energy agreements, totaling  further than 22 gigawatts( GW) of renewable energy capacity. These  systems gauge  solar, wind, and other carbon-free technologies. Despite its  fleetly expanding digital  structure and the  adding  energy demands of its global data centers, Google has managed to achieve notable reductions in its carbon footmark. In 2024, the company reported a 12 decline in data center emigrations, reflecting its  uninterrupted progress in  effectiveness and sustainability.

Opining on the new  cooperation, Will Conkling, Director of Clean Energy and Power at Google,  stressed the  significance of investing in clean and  dependable energy sources to strengthen digital  structure. He emphasized that collaborations like this bone

are  pivotal for supporting both business operations and indigenous  profitable growth. “ Strengthening the grid by planting  further  dependable and clean energy is  pivotal for supporting the digital  structure that businesses and  individualities depend on. Our collaboration with TotalEnergies will help power our data centers and the broader  profitable growth of Ohio, ” Conkling said.

For TotalEnergies, this agreement represents another  corner in its growing renewable energy portfolio and its commitment to serving large- scale commercial  guests. The company is  fleetly expanding its footmark in the U.S. energy  request, developing a portfolio of 10 GW of renewable capacity, including solar, wind, and battery  storehouse  systems. By supplying renewable electricity to major technology companies like Google, TotalEnergies is  buttressing its position as a  crucial player in the energy transition,  using its intertwined  means and  moxie across multiple energy sectors.

Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration and the  openings it presents for both companies. “ We're  pleased to strengthen our  cooperation with Google with this agreement to supply renewable electricity to their data centers in Ohio. This agreement illustrates TotalEnergies’s capability to meet the growing energy demands of major tech companies by  using its intertwined portfolio of renewable and flexible  means, ” Michel said.

The Montpelier solar  design is anticipated to make a meaningful  donation not only to Google’s clean energy  pretensions but also to original sustainability  sweats. Once  functional, it'll support the Ohio grid with  fresh clean power,  produce original employment  openings, and contribute to  profitable  exertion in the region. The  cooperation between Google and TotalEnergies reflects a broader shift within both the energy and technology  diligence, where collaboration is  getting essential for achieving ambitious decarbonization targets.

As the demand for digital services continues to grow, driven by data- ferocious technologies  similar as  pall computing and artificial intelligence, the need for  dependable and clean power sources has come decreasingly  critical. Deals like this one underscore how  pots are taking  visionary measures to secure renewable energy  inventories,  icing that their expansion does n't come at the  expenditure of the  terrain.

The Google – TotalEnergies  cooperation serves as a model for how  commanding companies can align their business  objects with global sustainability  pretensions. It represents a palpable step toward a cleaner energy future and highlights how  invention, collaboration, and commitment can drive meaningful progress toward a carbon-free world. Through this agreement, both companies are n't only advancing their strategic  pretensions but also contributing to a broader  metamorphosis of the global energy  geography — one where renewable power energies the technologies of  hereafter.
