Project SWASTHYA KIRAN expands CT imaging access, strengthening emergency and diagnostic care in Odisha.

HURL Launches CT Scanner Project to Boost Odisha Healthcare

Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Ltd. (HURL), in partnership with The Art of Living Social Projects, has commissioned a new advanced CT scanner under Project SWASTHYA KIRAN at the Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research Hospital (SSCASRH) in Cuttack, Odisha. The initiative aims to improve access to diagnostic imaging for patients in the state by strengthening the hospital’s capacity to detect and manage serious medical conditions across multiple specialties.

The newly installed Revolution™ Aspire Select CT Scanner is expected to enhance diagnostic services for patients requiring neurological, cardiac, oncological, trauma and emergency care. The facility is intended to support faster diagnosis of time-sensitive conditions such as stroke, severe injuries and cancer, where prompt imaging plays a crucial role in determining treatment.

Addressing gaps in diagnostic access

Access to advanced diagnostic imaging remains limited in several parts of Odisha, particularly in rural and underserved areas where healthcare infrastructure is still developing. Many patients are often required to travel considerable distances to undergo CT scans or wait for extended periods before receiving imaging services. Such delays can postpone diagnosis and treatment, increasing the risk of complications, particularly in emergency cases.

By expanding imaging capacity at SSCASRH, Project SWASTHYA KIRAN seeks to reduce these barriers by making advanced diagnostic services available closer to local communities. Improved access to CT imaging is expected to help patients receive timely evaluations without the need for referrals to distant medical centres, potentially reducing both travel-related costs and waiting times.

Partnership to improve healthcare access

Project SWASTHYA KIRAN has been developed through a collaboration between HURL and The Art of Living Social Projects under a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the Art of Living International Center in Bengaluru. The agreement was formalised in the presence of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

According to the organisations, the partnership combines investments in healthcare infrastructure with efforts to improve access to quality medical services for underserved populations. The project focuses on strengthening diagnostic capabilities through modern technology while supporting broader healthcare delivery in the region.

Enhancing emergency and specialised care

The installation of the CT scanner is expected to improve the hospital’s emergency response by enabling quicker and more accurate diagnosis of patients presenting with acute conditions. In cases such as stroke or major trauma, rapid imaging is often essential for determining the appropriate course of treatment, helping clinicians make timely medical decisions.

Beyond emergency medicine, the upgraded diagnostic facility is expected to support specialists across several disciplines, including neurology, cardiology and oncology. Faster and more precise imaging may contribute to earlier disease detection, improved treatment planning and better monitoring of patient progress, strengthening overall clinical care at the hospital.

Healthcare professionals also expect the enhanced imaging capability to improve continuity of care by reducing delays between diagnosis and treatment. This could benefit patients requiring long-term management of chronic or complex diseases, where regular imaging plays an important role in clinical decision-making.

Supporting regional healthcare infrastructure

The commissioning of the new CT scanner is expected to benefit thousands of patients annually and reinforce SSCASRH’s role as a healthcare institution serving Cuttack and surrounding districts. Improved diagnostic infrastructure may also reduce pressure on larger referral hospitals by enabling more patients to access advanced imaging services within their own region.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Odisha by expanding access to modern diagnostic technology. As demand for timely and accurate medical imaging continues to grow, investments in advanced diagnostic facilities are increasingly viewed as essential for improving patient outcomes and supporting efficient healthcare delivery.

Project SWASTHYA KIRAN represents an effort to improve access to timely diagnosis for communities that have traditionally faced limitations in advanced imaging services. By bringing modern diagnostic technology closer to patients, the project aims to support earlier detection of disease, faster clinical intervention and more accessible healthcare across the region.
