Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held discussions with leading Finnish technology and industrial companies as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between India and Finland in technology, manufacturing, innovation and sustainable development. The interactions reflected the positive momentum in India–Finland relations and highlighted opportunities for collaboration in advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, innovation, sustainable infrastructure and research.

Goyal met the management of Nokia Corporation. The discussions focused on potential future cooperation regarding 5G and 6G technologies, Digital Infrastructure, Electronics Manufacturing, Research and Development, and Innovation Partnership. The meeting highlighted the long-standing partnership between Nokia and the Indian telecom sector, and explored the opportunities for continued cooperation in the area of emerging digital technologies.

VTT Technical Research Centre is one of the leading applied research centres in Europe, and cooperation in research, innovation, clean technologies, industrial transformation, advanced materials, digitalisation and sustainable development was in focus. Both sides discussed the scope for further strengthening collaboration between research institutes in India and Finland in the areas of research and technology transfer.

The Minister also had a meeting with the Chairman and senior management of KONE Corp. The focus of the discussions was the enhancement of cooperation in smart urban infrastructure, elevators and escalators, sustainable construction, advanced manufacturing and localisation. The potential of the rapidly growing infrastructure industry and manufacturing base of India was also discussed.

The final meeting was with the Kemppi Group, where Shri Goyal met the owners and senior management of the company. Advanced industrial machinery, welding technologies, innovation in manufacturing, clean industrial solutions and investment opportunities in the manufacturing and infrastructure sectors of India were discussed. Additional opportunities for partnership in emerging projects, including EV charging infrastructure and industrial technologies, were also shared.

These meetings helped facilitate direct interaction between some of the major Finnish industry leaders, who hail from Finland, and enabled India to establish itself as a credible manufacturing and innovating partner to Finland.

The visit also reinforced the shared interest of both countries in deepening cooperation in technology, innovation, sustainable manufacturing, research and investments was reiterated during the visit. The industry engagements further reinforced business-to-business linkages and provided new opportunities for long-term cooperation in strategic sectors, building on the successful India–Finland Business Forum held the previous day.
