India Hosts Third BRICS Women's Working Group Preparatory Meeting

India hosted the third Preparatory Meeting of the BRICS Women's Working Group as part of its BRICS Chairship, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening cooperation on women's empowerment among BRICS member countries.

Under India's Chairship, the Third Preparatory Meeting of the BRICS Women Track was held virtually on June 29, 2026, under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability." The meeting was organised by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Anil Malik, Secretary, Ministry of Women & Child Development, mentioned the importance of the conference and underlined the importance of the upcoming BRICS Women’s Working Group Meeting and the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting that will take place at Kochi, Kerala, from July 6 to 9, 2026. According to him, the conferences will give an opportunity to BRICS nations to work together for women’s development and share best practices.

The discussions focused on key deliverables, such as the Digital Repository of Best Practices and BRICS Women's Capacity Building Guidelines, with the purpose of promoting knowledge sharing and building capacity for improved institutional collaboration between the participating countries. Members from BRICS countries provided some useful suggestions regarding consensus-building and win-win outcomes.

As India chairs BRICS in 2026, the member countries extended congratulations to India for taking up the Chairmanship, and praised India’s contributions in the BRICS Women Track Initiative. The countries also reiterated their dedication to the cooperation in empowering women.

Women’s participation in economic development, innovation, entrepreneurship, and decision-making was another important aspect that got highlighted during the meeting.

In conclusion of the meeting, the Chair expressed gratitude to all delegations for their productive participation and reaffirmed India’s pledge to foster practical partnership towards women-led development in all BRICS countries. It is anticipated that the results of the preparatory meeting will help shape the agenda of the forthcoming BRICS Women’s Working Group and Ministerial Meeting in Kochi.
