SHAGUN 2026 will organise a dowry-free mass wedding for 51 women in Delhi along with education support for girls.
The Ladli Foundation is all set to conduct SHAGUN 2026, a mass wedding ceremony (Samuhik Vivah) without dowry for 51 women from economically weaker sections of society in New Delhi. The mass wedding will also include the sponsorship of tuition fees for 101 girl children for a period of nine years. The mass wedding is scheduled to be held at The Zora, Delhi Convention Centre, on March 30, 2026. The event is likely to be attended by former President Ram Nath Kovind and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
SHAGUN 2026 is not just about the celebration of marriage; it is also about helping families from low-income backgrounds. The initiative is aimed at helping to resolve the problems of dowry, child marriage, and the social attitude towards women. The initiative is also aimed at helping the woman who enters marriage with a sense of dignity and not with a sense of debt.
The event will provide venue, meals, transportation, and the ceremony, as well as post-marriage support. Each of the beneficiaries is expected to receive support for skills and livelihood training, medical insurance, direct financial support, marriage registration support, and mentoring for skill development and learning.
As part of the process, background checks of grooms will be conducted to ensure safety and reduce the risk of abuse, fraud, or exploitation. The programme also includes a community accountability approach, where families of senior civil servants and police officials are expected to be associated with beneficiary families in a symbolic manner.
Devendra Kumar, Founder Ladli Foundation, said, “SHAGUN is a celebration of our daughters and a promise of their future in the long run. We would like the community not merely to observe the event but to support our daughters in their effort to create a world where no woman has to go through dowry-related violence or discrimination or be afraid. Supporting SHAGUN is supporting a safer and more equal India.”
The organisation stated that Project SHAGUN has reached over 2,067 women so far, focusing on support, dignity, and reducing financial and social pressures linked to marriage.
