Lawsuit Challenges Musk-led Agency For Gutting US Environmental Protections

According to Common Dreams, a prominent environmental organization filed a lawsuit on Monday to prevent US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk from "gutting" over a dozen federal government environmental agencies and departments.

The Center for Biological Diversity filed the suit challenging Trump's Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), targeting the Environmental Protection Agency and the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Interior, and Transportation, along with several key federal entities, including the Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management, the report added.

While speaking to Common Dreams, Brett Hartl, the center's government affairs director, said that Elon Musk and his hacker minions are tearing apart the federal agencies that protect our public lands, keep our air and water clean, and conserve our most cherished wildlife.

The lawsuit claims that the DOGE teams violate the Federal Advisory Committee Act by failing to adhere to the standards of openness and fair representation. The complaint cautions that by obtaining government contracts and lowering environmental rules, Musk and other tech leaders may profit monetarily.

The legal action follows a previous federal suit and coincides with a congressional probe by US Rep. Gerry Connolly into Musk's official governmental role.
