Lenovo Launches TruScale DaaS For Sustainability
Lenovo unveils TruScale DaaS for Sustainability to cut IT costs, reduce emissions, and boost circular IT adoption.
Lenovo has launched TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS) for Sustainability. This IT solution helps companies modernize technology management while promoting environmental goals. The service combines devices, services, and financing into a single modular subscription model. It focuses on extending device lifespans, reducing IT costs, and supporting the shift to a circular economy.
The new offering builds on Lenovo’s existing TruScale DaaS platform, which currently manages millions of devices globally. This sustainability-focused version provides lifecycle management tools that support carbon reduction, minimize e-waste, and optimize resources. The launch also aligns with Lenovo’s broader ESG commitments, including its goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Lenovo’s TruScale DaaS for Sustainability offers businesses clear environmental and financial benefits. By consolidating device management into one subscription service, organizations can lower upfront capital needs and can achieve up to 35% reductions in device-related IT costs. Some deployments have reported total cost of ownership (TCO) savings of 20% and maintenance cost reductions between 10% and 40%.
Key features include lifecycle modules like the Carbon Impact Portal, which gives real-time visibility into carbon emissions, and CO₂ Offset Services that help businesses offset lifecycle emissions through verified programs. Lenovo also offers Certified Refurbished Devices, allowing companies to save on technology upgrades while reducing e-waste. Asset Recovery Services ensure secure decommissioning of old devices while maximizing their remaining value.
A McKinsey study mentioned by Lenovo shows that up to 60% of emissions from end-user devices can be reduced by extending the lifespan of IT assets and lowering the number of devices per user—a strategy that TruScale DaaS supports. John Stamer, Vice President and General Manager of Global Product Services at Lenovo, highlighted that modern IT management is moving from a performance-driven focus to a broader purpose-driven approach. “TruScale DaaS for Sustainability reflects our vision for the future of IT: circular by default, intelligent by design, and accountable by outcome,” Stamer noted.
The solution also features AI-driven tools like the Lenovo Intelligent Sustainability Solutions Advisor (LISSA) and Care of One™, which help IT teams make informed decisions about device refresh cycles and user experience improvements. These tools assist CIOs and IT leaders in developing better strategies that enhance sustainability results and business performance.
“Sustainable IT should drive value, not complexity,” said Rakshit Ghura, Vice President and General Manager of Digital Workplace Solutions at Lenovo. “CIOs have to deliver business performance and sustainability progress at the same time. Lenovo TruScale DaaS for Sustainability meets this need with data-driven, circular IT that simplifies decision-making and delivers ROI from day one.”
Real-world examples of the service's impact are emerging. Coventry University Group replaced its outdated IT infrastructure with Lenovo’s TruScale DaaS for Sustainability and managed to offset 223 tons of CO₂ through the company’s offset services. The university also saved 40 IT labor hours each week and noted improved support for devices. Ian Dunn, Provost of Coventry University Group, praised the service for providing both scalability and flexibility. “Lenovo TruScale gives us the scalability and flexibility we need to manage our technology efficiently and meet our carbon reduction goals,” he said.
The solution covers the complete device lifecycle through five distinct stages: Advise, Implement, Support, Manage, and Retire & Refresh. Each stage aims to enhance asset performance, reduce environmental impact, and increase operational efficiency. All Lenovo commercial laptops and desktops—along with 98% of its monitors—hold ENERGY STAR certification, adding further credibility to the platform.
As companies face increasing pressure to comply with ESG standards and decarbonization targets, Lenovo’s TruScale DaaS for Sustainability provides a thoughtful, scalable path forward. By blending circular economy principles with effective technology management, Lenovo positions itself as not only a technology provider but also a partner in corporate sustainability transformation.
