LG Electronics details ESG progress and sets new targets in carbon neutrality, circular economy, inclusive employment, and innovation through its 2024–2025 Sustainability Report.

LG Electronics Sets New ESG Goals for 2030

LG Electronics released its 2024–2025 Sustainability Report outlining the success and future trends of the company under its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program. The Better Life for All report highlights LG's January 2024 to June 2025 success in terms of climate responsibility, inclusive growth, innovation, and circular economy behavior.

The South Korean conglomerate generated all-time high revenue of KRW 87.7 trillion ($63.81 billion) in 2024, and continued commitment to convergence of business activities with ethics and sustainability. The ESG framework of the company has two wide-ranging priority themes: "3Cs" – carbon neutrality, circularity, and clean technology, and "3Ds" – decent working place, diversity and inclusion, and design for all.

LG recorded Scope 1 and 2 emissions of 910,000 tonnes CO₂ equivalent in 2024, almost reaching its target of lowering 878,000 tonnes by 2030. The decrease was achieved through the implementation of energy-saving equipment and carbon-reduction technologies in a few of its production facilities. LG aims to lower Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 54.6% and Scope 3 by 20% by 2030 compared to 2017 levels. Scope 3 is held accountable for all of the company's indirect value chain emissions from their product utilization.

The report also identified LG's role in developing highly effective HVAC systems such as the AI-based Multi V i, which has won industry awards for efficiency. In the area of waste management, the company achieved a recycling rate of 97.4%, gathered 5.01 million tonnes of e-waste, and recycled 188,000 tonnes of plastics. Nine of its factories have achieved Zero Waste to Landfill certification.

LG eco-innovation investment ranges from the likes of the myCup tumbler washer and water-soluble glass powder for rehabilitating marine life systems, which were rigorously tested in Antarctica. These efforts aim at enhancing clean technology targets and preserving biodiversity.

Socially, LG has been concentrating on labor rights, diversity, and inclusion. All the factory facilities are ISO 45001 certified, and more than 45,000 employees have been trained in human rights. The company wants to raise Korea's employment rate of people with disabilities to 3.5% and female worker proportion in international labor to 25.5% by 2030. The figures are 2.6% and 22.1% as of 2024.

Safety training for workers was finalized for over 37,000 workers and no serious accidents were incurred. All 100% smelters utilized are assured under the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process in the supply chain and supplier non-conformity stood at 1.1% under the Responsible Business Alliance audit.

Customer access enhancement schemes included the introduction of 13 comfort kit models of products and voice recognition functions in 11 product lines. LG also conducted more than 1,300 sign language consultations and assisted more than 136,000 individuals under community outreach programmes during 2024. Total beneficiaries of such initiatives since 2009 are 4.98 million.

The governance structure at the company has a board-level ESG Committee, frequent materiality assessment on double materiality approach, and robust systems of compliance. The board met nine times during 2024 with complete attendance and ensured all staff members underwent ethics training.

Risk management is carried out by Enterprise Risk Management Committee, who now include scenario-based analysis of climate while making plans. Cybersecurity includes simulations, bug bounties, and design-oriented means of information protection, especially in digital services and smart home.

LG is featured on worldwide sustainability rankings, ranking in the top 1% S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment two years consecutively, featured on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for 13 years continuously, and ranked No.1 sustainable brand by Green Builder.

All local and overseas manufacturing sites are ISO 14001 (environment), ISO 45001 (labor safety and health), and ISO 50001 (energy management) certified, demonstrating company adherence to international standards of safety, health, environment, and energy quality.

The report concludes with LG's goal of becoming carbon neutral and socially responsible by 2030, where ESG is given top priority in its rebranding as an ethical and future-minded company.
