NTPC Marks 51st Anniversary, Reaffirms Clean Energy Push
NTPC Ltd, India’s largest power utility, has marked its 51st Raising Day, celebrating more than fifty years of operations and highlighting its continued transition to sustainable energy. The event reinforced the company's key position in fulfilling the country's electricity needs while adapting to the shift toward cleaner energy sources.

The primary event took place at the company’s Engineering Office Complex in Noida. Shri Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, led the flag-hoisting ceremony, attended by senior officials and the board of directors. As stated in a company press release, staff from different NTPC power stations took part in the event online.

Throughout the festivities, the company's executives emphasized NTPC's transformation from mainly a thermal power generator to a varied energy conglomerate. This strategic pivot now includes substantial investments in renewable energy sources, in addition to explorations into emerging areas such as green hydrogen and nuclear energy. The organization mentioned that this shift is motivated by an emphasis on innovation and a dedication to aiding India's larger climate and sustainability goals.

The occasion additionally acted as a venue to introduce multiple new initiatives. These comprised the launch of an organizational memory book named “Remembering Our Roots” and a coffee table book centered on NETRA, the firm's research and development department. The CMD also revealed the identities of young achievers from the NTPC community and virtually launched new facilities, such as a guest house in Unchahar, Uttar Pradesh, and a wellness center in Kayamkulam, Kerala
NTPC’s operational reach continues to be extensive. The firm now possesses an installed generation capacity of 84,849 megawatts (MW), supplying around one-fourth of the country’s overall electricity needs. A large volume of new capacity, 30.90 gigawatts (GW), is presently in development. A significant part of this new development, 13.3 GW, relies on renewable energy, indicating the company's strategic shift.

This corresponds with the organization’s publicly declared objective of reaching 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2032. This goal is regarded as a vital element in enhancing India’s dedication to attaining net zero emissions. In addition to conventional and renewable energy production, NTPC has broadened its business ventures into various forward-looking sectors. These recent initiatives encompass electric vehicle charging systems (e-mobility), battery energy storage, pumped hydro storage projects, and waste-to-energy facilities.

The 51st Raising Day festivities extended beyond the Noida headquarters, with comparable events taking place at all of NTPC's project sites nationwide. This signifies the pinnacle of the company's 50th anniversary year, honoring a legacy of driving national development while establishing itself as a crucial contributor to India’s sustainable energy future
