Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned that the friendship and cooperation between two countries have taken a new transformation and trajectory as a result of his state visit to Seychelles recently.

At the press briefing after the end of his visit, the Prime Minister spoke of the "cordiality" with which he was received and the "productive" results of the meeting with Seychelles leadership. The visit was a reaffirmation of India's resolve to build strategic partnerships in the Indian Ocean region, which has both historical, cultural and maritime ties, he added.

The Prime Minister attributed the success of capacity building and healthcare assistance as well as educational exchange programmes under the umbrella of the bilateral relationship. Our cooperation goes beyond mere strategic issues, it is also a cooperation that has to involve the everyday people,” he said.

Modi spoke about the need for collective efforts to achieve global solutions to issues like climate change expressed India's support towards Seychelles in terms of strengthening the measures and strategies to build the nation's resilience to environmental challenges. Climate and environmental collaboration were one of the partnership's pillars, he said, particularly since the small island states are at risk from climate change impacts like sea level rise and extreme weather conditions.

During the Prime Minister's visit, high-level dialogues, signing of agreements and issuing of joint statements for reinforcing the economic and security cooperation between the two countries took place. During the visit, several cooperative efforts in the areas of trade, investment and maritime cooperation were set, officials said.
