On Tuesday, Pune Airport held 'Yatri Suvidha Diwas', an event showcasing passenger services and airport initiatives and efforts towards sustainability, as part of its efforts to become a modern and environmentally friendly travel hub, officials said.

During the event, stakeholders and local artists, the airport's initiatives were presented under the theme “Seva through Simplicity and Technology,” the statement said. Officials said the airport is increasingly digitising its services to enhance passenger convenience, with app-assisted navigation and support, self-service check-in and automated real-time flight information, as examples, cutting down waiting times and streamlining processes. The upgrades come as part of a series of developments aimed at enhancing the efficiency and passenger experience and operational efficiency, both domestically and internationally.

Environmental sustainability was also a key focus of the event. Pune Airport emphasised its efforts to reduce the carbon footprint, such as through energy-efficient infrastructure, waste management systems, and water conservation measures across the terminal complex, and implemented water conservation measures. Previous sustainability efforts have featured LED lighting systems, rainwater harvesting and a drive to limit plastic consumption.

These initiatives not only resonate with India's broader clean energy initiatives but also complement Pune's emerging status as an innovation and sustainability hub, the representatives said. The event also aimed to educate passengers about sustainable travel practices through interactive displays and information on the airport's environmental initiatives.

The event also featured sensitisation on the issues of passenger safety, providing facilities for differently-abled passengers and community engagement. Children and families had fun viewing art, music and various cultural exhibitions highlighting the history and culture of Pune; and linking travel infrastructure and local identity.
