Rapido has distributed more than 1 lakh water bottles and ORS packets across Mumbai as part of a summer relief programme targeting gig workers, drivers, delivery personnel and commuters affected by extreme heat.
Rapido has successfully provided 1 lakh water bottles and oral rehydration solution (ORS) packets to the residents of Mumbai through its summer relief program aimed at providing aid to gig workers, delivery boys, drivers, daily wagers, and other commuters during extreme weather conditions.
The program was started by Rapido under its #RapidoCares campaign, which has already been running for the last 10 days in transit and commuter hubs in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and the region of Virar-Vasai-Nalasopara. The company stated that the program is benefiting about 30,000 individuals per day.
Water bottles and ORS packets were distributed in Dadar TT, Sakinaka circle, Vashi railway station, Kharghar railway station, and Majiwada circle, Thane, among other locations. As per the company, the next step of the campaign will also extend the reach of their program to Mira Bhayandar.
Several regions of the country are experiencing extremely hot weather conditions, making people concerned about dehydration and heat strokes, especially those who are exposed to the sun for several hours during the day.
Apart from hydration solutions, Rapido has also issued heat advisories, hydration tips and weather alerts to drivers and passengers using its application. The alerts provide details on how to stay hydrated and avoid extreme heat when working.
The program is aimed at workers in the field of urban mobility, such as delivery drivers, auto-rickshaw drivers, bike riders, and other frontline workers who work under harsh weather conditions.
Exposure to heat has become an increasing concern for both informal workers and gig economy workers in large cities due to extended exposure to heat in summer.
In a statement, Rapido stated that the program will run as a pilot program in Mumbai and could be scaled up to cities with similar weather conditions in the near future.
Since 2015, Rapido has run a range of urban mobility services, which include bike taxi, auto-rickshaw, cab and delivery services in more than 400 Indian cities.
