Over 20 teams competed to address challenges in India’s built environment and infrastructure sectors.

Students Present Infrastructure Innovation at Delhi City Round

The Delhi City round of the Bharat Nav-Nirmaan Challenge, a nationwide student innovation initiative by NICMAR, concluded in the capital region, bringing together undergraduate engineering and architecture students to present solutions to real-world infrastructure challenges.

More than 20 teams from colleges across Delhi NCR participated in the city finale, showcasing projects aimed at addressing challenges in India’s built environment and infrastructure sectors. The competition is part of a multi-stage national platform that engages students with India’s Construction, Real Estate, Infrastructure, and Project (CRIP) sectors.

Projects were evaluated by a jury of industry experts, including Nakul Gupta, Dean – R&D at NICMAR Delhi NCR Campus; Manoj K. Dixit, Chief Operating Officer – Hydro Business, GMR Energy and Ar. Sameer Divekar, Partner & Executive Vice President, C P Kukreja Architects. Entries were assessed on innovation, feasibility, scalability, and relevance to current infrastructure needs.

Tapash Kumar Ganguli, Director-General of NICMAR, noted that the projects demonstrated strong technical understanding and practical implementation thinking, providing students exposure to real-world infrastructure problem statements.

The Delhi City round was won by the India Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, with the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Delhi, finishing second, and Delhi Technological University (DTU), Delhi, in third place. These teams will advance to the regional round to compete with top teams from other cities. The challenge is supported by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and awards prizes worth Rs 30 lakh.
