Thailand Launches Green Tourism Initiative with Sustainable Routes
Thailand’s Green Tourism Collections feature 20 eco-friendly travel routes across 10 green cities, promoting sustainable tourism in line with global environmental goals.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has introduced the Thailand Green Tourism Collections, featuring 20 sustainable travel routes across 10 green cities. The initiative aims to promote eco-friendly tourism and align with global sustainability goals.
The Green Tourism Collections include routes in Chiang Mai, Nan, Sukhothai, Loei, Nakhon Ratchasima, Bangkok, Trat, Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Surat Thani. These destinations were selected for their low-impact, inclusive tourism models that preserve nature and local culture. The routes cover six themes: cultural heritage, culinary experiences, activities, nature, community-based tourism, and the Thai way, offering authentic, low-impact travel experiences.
The initiative supports Thailand’s 2030 Sustainable Tourism Goals and New Thailand Vision 2026. It aligns with the European Union’s sustainability regulations, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, ensuring Thai businesses remain competitive globally. Operators in the collections, including accommodations, attractions, and tour operators, must meet international sustainability standards set by organisations like the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and Green Globe.
The Green Mayor Initiative in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Krabi promotes local engagement by integrating sustainability into community tourism. This includes designing eco-friendly routes and signage to enhance visitor experiences while preserving environmental and cultural assets. TAT is promoting the collections globally through online presentations, trade shows like the World Travel Market in London (4-7 November 2025), and partnerships with influencers and tour operators.
This initiative reflects Thailand’s commitment to balancing tourism growth with environmental and social responsibility. By fostering sustainable practices across the tourism supply chain, Thailand aims to attract eco-conscious travellers and support long-term sustainability.
In conclusion, the Thailand Green Tourism Collections mark a significant step towards sustainable tourism. By highlighting eco-friendly routes and engaging local communities, Thailand is positioning itself as a leader in responsible travel, contributing to global sustainability efforts.
