BHEL Secures ₹7,500 Crore Order for 800 MW Unit at Ukai Thermal Power Plant in Gujarat

PSU Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has secured a ₹7,500 crore contract for installing an 800 MW unit at Ukai Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in Gujarat. The contract has been awarded by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) on an international competitive bidding basis. The unit's commercial operation is expected within 54 months.

The new unit, to be known as Unit-7, will be erected at the current ash dyke location of the Ukai plant in the Tapi district. BHEL will execute the project on an Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) basis. The scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, testing, and commissioning, including electrical, civil, and structural work.

In addition, the project includes the installation of advanced emission control equipment to minimize environmental impacts. This aligns with India's efforts to make thermal power production more efficient and sustainable. BHEL has been instrumental in the growth of the Ukai plant since 1976 when it commissioned the initial thermal unit at the plant.

As one of India's leading power equipment manufacturers, BHEL has commissioned over 1,70,000 MW of utility power capacity in India. The company continues to play a significant role in India's energy security and self-sufficiency in the power sector. The new order at Ukai further strengthens BHEL's contribution to the modernization and increase in India's thermal power infrastructure.

Conclusion:-
The ₹7,500 crore contract for the 800 MW unit at Ukai is evidence of BHEL's leadership position in the power industry. The project, based on cutting-edge technology and emissions controls, will augment India's energy requirements while improving environmental performance. The company's thermal power generation strengths position it as a key contributor to India's energy revolution.
