BMS Raises Employee and Pension Reform Issues During Meeting with Dr. Jitendra Singh

A 19-member delegation of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) and its affiliated employee organisations met Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh to discuss issues concerning government employees, pensioners and administrative reforms.

The delegation appreciated the government's decision to redeploy nearly 65,000 former Ordnance Factory employees into regular government service, a move that, according to the delegation, safeguarded the future of thousands of employees following the restructuring of the Ordnance Factory Board. Representatives thanked Dr. Jitendra Singh, who is a member of the Empowered Group of Ministers, for supporting the extension of the deemed deputation of these employees until the date of their retirement. They said the subsequent decision to redeploy them into regular government service provided long-term service security and addressed one of the most significant concerns arising from the corporatisation of the Ordnance Factory Board.

The delegation included representatives from BMS, Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh, Government Employees National Confederation, Public Sector Employees National Confederation, SHAR Employees Trade Union, and Space Employees Association, representing employees from defence establishments, public sector organisations, scientific institutions and other central government services.

The delegation also discussed service-related issues during the meeting, including extending the benefits of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to compassionate appointment cases, career progression, cadre-related matters, and broader stakeholder consultations on service-related issues. It also recommended streamlining administrative processes to reduce litigation and ensure the timely resolution of service-related matters.

Dr. Jitendra Singh said that constant engagement with all stakeholders contributes to good governance and ensures that problems related to the employees and pensioners of the government are sorted out at the earliest. He reiterated that the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi always adopts a participatory and responsive approach and that every representation is duly considered by the concerned ministries/departments.

There was optimism on the part of the delegates that the government will continue to pursue labour-friendly policies while remaining engaged with representatives’ organizations concerning issues of services, pensions and personnel management.
