Budget's Energy Push to Benefit Renewables, Say Experts
Union Budget 2025 : Enhancing in the energy field by increasing infrastructures, more investment in renewable.
This is the finance minister's record eighth successive Union Budget, which he has presented before Lok Sabha on Saturday, with sharp proposals aimed at boosting India's energy infrastructure. The announcements seem to scan power sector reforms, access to critical minerals and technologies for grid-scale storage that are likely to pump in investments in the sector. Improve energy security.
Critical Energy Sector Announcements
Power sector reforms & DISCOM efficiency:
The government has also forced the DISCOMs to improve efficiencies in order to further strengthen the power sector. Thus, for incentive purposes, strengthening of intra-state transmission capacity is made in addition to providing finance aid to the states concerning reforming their respective power sectors. Therefore, with all of the above reforms in place, further borrowing up to 0.5% of GSDP would thus be helpful to states for further infrastructural development.
Renewable Energy Growth & Investment in Grid Expansion
Intradistrict grid expansion shall bring an end to industrial disputes through enhanced speedy delivery of energy schemes. In addition, the combination of intradistrict transmission networking will make grids strong that will favor renewable sources penetration into the mainstream energy grid thereby enabling greater deployments of solar as well as wind energy.
Mission Nuclear Energy SMRs
This puts India in the league of leading nations in terms of nuclear energy production to achieve the goal of 100 GW of nuclear energy by 2047. It is investing Rs 20,000 crore for induction of innovation in nuclear energy through SMRs. Five indigenously built SMRs that are slated to come online from 2033 will further bolster the country's nuclear power infrastructure besides climate change mitigation.
National Manufacturing Mission To be focused on indigenization of critical components in the form of solar PV cells, wind turbines, electrolysers, grid scale batteries, very high voltage transmission equipment and electric vehicle (EV) motors and controllers with an aim to reduce dependence on imports and improve supply chain security for the renewable energy industry of India.
Exemption from Customs Duty on Critical Minerals & Battery Components
It has eased cobalt products, lithium-ion battery scrap and 12 other critical minerals under BCD to ease down the downstream producers. With these measures, Indian manufacturers will be able to compete better on the world platform and grow rapidly in battery storage and renewable power technologies.
Battery Storage & Renewable Power Projects
The country will see the addition of well over 33% through battery-backed renewable energy projects in the next 3-5 years. Efforts on the government's part will make developers better in terms of cost, quality, and supply so that stability within the renewable energy sector can be maintained.
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Expansion
Allotment to PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana will ramp up rooftop solar adoption in India. The policy would seek to produce electricity free of cost from the installation of solar to be supplied for household consumers, thus not relying on traditional sources of energy.
Mining Reforms for Critical Minerals
The Budget also brought reforms in mining for access to critical minerals required in renewable energy technologies. Reforms are said to ease the mining process, minimize long delays, and spur investment in the critical minerals sector.
Impact on the Renewable Energy Industry
While not a major new policy announcement per se, these reforms through the Budget have managed to generate and set in further momentum the trajectory of infrastructure development, efficiency at the DISCOMs' front, and also cement India as a world arena leader with its renewable energy goals. The focus on extension grid investment, nuclear energy, and indigenous manufacturing, while increasing, will become only more resilient of this ecosystem-while keeping abreast the agenda of clean energy.
