Centre Announces MSP For Mango Farmers In Karnataka Amid Price Crash

The Central government has approved a Market Intervention Price of Rs 1,616 per quintal for mangoes under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for the 2025–26 season. It is a relief for mango farmers struggling under a market price crash. The government plans to step in and buy many mangoes i.e. 2.5 lakh tonnes and stop prices from going down and ensure farmers to get fair money for their produce.

The Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy requested central government to help mango farmers after which the announcement has been made by the government. He had written letter to the agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, asking for quick action to buy mangoes and support farmers in South Karnataka.

The mango farmers were facing huge crisis due to sharply drop in price in recent weeks. So, the Karnataka government investigated it and asked for help from Union Agriculture minister to talk to the Central government and help mango farmers.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had also written to Minister Chouhan, urging the Centre to initiate a price deficiency payment system and activate procurement through central agencies like the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF). The goal was to support distressed farmers and prevent a further economic downturn in rural areas.

Welcoming the Centre’s decision, Neelaturu Chinnappa Reddy, president of the Kolar District Mango Growers’ Association, expressed satisfaction, stating, “We are very happy with the decision.” He further appealed to both Central and State governments to continue supporting farmers during this difficult period.

The announcement is expected to bring temporary stability to the mango market and provide financial relief to thousands of growers in Karnataka's key mango-producing districts, including Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and Ramanagara.
