DCPC Leads Swachhotsav with 500+ Cleanliness and Sustainability Initiatives

The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, along with its Public Sector Undertakings (Hindustan Insecticides Limited – HIL and Hindustan Organic Chemicals Limited – HOCL) and Autonomous Bodies (Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology – CIPET and Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology – IPFT), participated in the nationwide cleanliness campaign “Swachhata Hi Seva – Swachhotsav 2025”.

Over 500 activities focusing on cleanliness, health awareness, and waste management were conducted across India, with the participation of more than 2,000 employees, students, and community members, reinforcing the commitment of DCPC and its organizations toward achieving the vision of “Swachh Bharat.”

As part of the campaign, several initiatives were undertaken. Under the Plantation Drive – “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, over 500 saplings were planted across HIL units and CIPET campuses, with more than 150 participants. Awareness campaigns on RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) were organized at metro stations, gardens, and schools, engaging over 300 people in promoting sustainable waste practices.

The Health Check-up and Safai Mitra Suraksha initiative saw the distribution of PPE kits and health cards for Safai Mitras and housekeeping staff, benefiting around 150 participants. A Webinar on E-waste and Sustainability, conducted by HIL with participation from a UNIDO expert, highlighted best practices in e-waste management.

Extensive cleaning drives were carried out at HOCL townships, CIPET centres, IPFT campus, temples, and Anganwadis, involving over 400 participants. Identified Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) such as areas near Bharat Petroleum Pump in Kerala and the IPFT campus in Gurgaon were also cleaned by teams from HOCL and IPFT.

The ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ drive mobilized more than 300 participants, including top management, for a one-hour mass cleaning activity across multiple states. School outreach programs were also organized near CIPET and HIL centres, where students took cleanliness pledges and received stationery kits.

To further engage communities, competitions and cultural events such as poster making, slogan writing, and street plays were conducted by HOCL and CIPET, promoting Swachhata awareness among youth. The celebrations concluded with Swachhata Diwas, where floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi and Safai Mitras were felicitated for their contributions.

Through these initiatives, DCPC, its PSUs, and autonomous bodies have reaffirmed their commitment to environmental protection, community health, and sustainable development — upholding the true spirit of the Swachh Bharat mission.
