Delhi is set to face intense heat again, with temperatures likely to cross 40°C in several areas, according to the India Meteorological Department.

Delhi Heatwave: Temperatures Cross 40°C, IMD Issues Forecast

Delhi is now entering into another round of severe heat wave with forecasters from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) says that temperatures will exceed 40°C at several places in the city. Temperatures on the other hand were welcoming in the city this Thursday morning with temperatures at 23°C. But the comfort may not last long as temperatures will be rising rapidly throughout the day.

Mercury set to cross 40°C

The weather department has said that temperatures will rise and cross 40°C later in the day. This will bring hot and dry conditions back after a short break caused by recent rainfall. People can expect strong sunlight, especially in the afternoon hours.

Heatwave-like conditions return

People have already started feeling severe heat on Wednesday. The Ridge area in the city recorded highest temperatures of 40.7°C, while the Safdarjung station recorded 39.2°C, which is above normal. This shows that the city is slowly moving towards heatwave-like conditions and soon it will become difficult to survive without AC.

Five-day forecast: Hot weather to continue

According to IMD, Delhi is likely to see rise in temperatures over the next few days. On April 16, sky will appear partly cloudy but there won’t be major relief from heat and maximum temperatures will be staying around 40–41°C and minimum temperatures between 21–23°C. On April 17, condition will be same like Thursday with the same temperatures and on April 18, sky will turn mainly clear and might cloudy by evening or night with the highest temperatures 41°C, lowest 21°C. By watching the forecast, IMD has not issued any warning for the heatwave but the temperatures are expected to remain above normal.

Advisory for residents

As temperatures are now staying close to 40°C, people are advised to avoid going out in direct sunlight during afternoon hours, drink enough water, and take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Over all the current weather condition says that Delhi is now heading towards intense summer phase as temperatures are rising with no sign of drop in heat.
