Delhi’s Air Still Hazardous; 16 Areas in the Red Zone
Delhi continues to face hazardous air quality, with 16 neighbourhoods still classified in the red zone as pollution levels remain high.
The air quality of Delhi was recorded 285 today morning on Thursday which means the air is “poor” and not healthy to breathe, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). In 16 areas of the city, the level of pollution remained above AQI 300 which puts those areas in red zone. The highest AQI was recorded in Rohini with 343, while some places issued yellow alert because the air quality is getting worse.
According to the report, yesterday on Wednesday, Delhi’s 24-hour average AQI was 259, which is little better than Tuesday’s level which was recorded 282. After 9 consecutive days of very poor air quality, people have begun to see some relief since Tuesday.
AQI in different parts of Delhi
Most of the areas in Delhi were recorded under the ‘Very Poor’ category on Thursday. The level of pollution is still worrying in several locations. Delhi Cantt recorded an AQI of 302, while Bawana registered 334, DTU 331, Jahangirpuri 341, Mundka 326 and Nehru Nagar 339. Siri Fort recorded an AQI of 288, Vivek Vihar 321, Wazirpur 327, Shadipur 266 and Akshardham 302. All of which fall under the ‘Very Poor’ category.
AQI status in NCR regions
The AQI in Faridabad was 286, falls under ‘Poor’ category. Gurugram’s AQI was 188, which is ‘Moderate’ and little better than rest of the areas in NCR. In Indirapuram which is in Ghaziabad, the AQI was recorded at 288, also in the ‘Poor’ category. Air quality in Gorakhpur was better than other areas, here AQI stood at 183, which falls in the ‘Satisfactory’ range. Greater Noida recorded an AQI of 236 (‘Poor’), while Noida remained in the ‘Very Poor’ category with an AQI of 309. Muzaffarnagar recorded an AQI of 330, also classified as ‘Very Poor’.
Slight Improvement Noticed in Some Areas
In Delhi some places showed a small improvement in air quality, but the air is still toxic to breathe. The AQI at IGI Airport Terminal-3 was 211, which is under ‘Poor’ category. At India Gate and Kartavya Path areas, the AQI was 309, indicating a ‘Very Poor’ condition. Overall, the air quality across the city indicates that the air quality is still recovering and getting worse, and the situation is still worrying.
