DS Group is adding sustainability into its decisions and creating a report to track and reduce its emissions.

DS Group Moves Toward Data-Driven Climate Action with Emissions Audit

Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group) announced on Thursday that it is reinforcing its climate action agenda through embedding sustainable principles in their decision-making processes.

The organisation is expected to create a GHG (Green House Gas) inventory for the DS Group during FY 24/25 based on Scope 1, Scope 2, and some Scope 3 emissions. This will enable them to identify crucial areas where emission sources exist and take measures against those.

According to the company, the audit is meant to take steps further from general sustainability practices towards identifying emission sources in order to manage the issue better.

Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman of the group, said, “The DS Group is rapidly moving towards green energy, reducing carbon content in their products and services. At the same time, they are implementing circular economy strategies to utilise resources, such as water and material, to their full potential. In addition, by collaborating with suppliers in sustainable resource acquisition, DS Group has taken measures to address the hidden environmental implications that usually do not receive any attention. In other words, the firm is taking deliberate steps to influence its corporate identity rather than limiting itself to compliance and regulation. “Every expansion in the coming years would have to be scrutinised for climate risk to ensure that growth is aligned with India’s new NDC Goals.”

The company said it is also focusing on promoting renewable energy, circularity in resource usage, and sustainable sourcing practices as part of their sustainability strategy. It was pointed out that any investment in the future will be evaluated in terms of climate risks.

Industry experts note that these moves point towards a larger trend among firms to have a proper carbon accounting and sustainability-related corporate governance strategy.
