EcoVadis Appoints Dexter Galvin As Climate Ambassador

EcoVadis, the world leader in supply chain sustainability intelligence, has made the strategic appointment of Dexter Galvin as its Climate Ambassador. This hiring takes place at an urgent time for international climate action, with more than half of companies remaining short of their 2030 objectives to lower Scope 3 emissions—those indirect emissions happening inside a company's value chain, including both downstream and upstream processes. Through the appointment of Galvin, EcoVadis is poised to accelerate corporate decarbonization programs and enhance carbon data quality being utilized in climate strategy.

Dexter Galvin is a world-renowned supply chain sustainability expert who spent more than 16 years at CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), a non-profit organization with a global environmental disclosure system. Most recently, he was CDP's Chief Commercial and Partnerships Officer and played a key role in developing and managing its top-of-the-range supply chain program. Under his management, the program expanded to include over 340 key buyers and 20,000 suppliers globally, His work brought focus on the influential role supply chain emissions have in a firm's overall carbon footprint—commonly the greatest and most difficult segment to manage.

Galvin, who will join EcoVadis, will work to speed up the pace of Scope 3 emissions reduction through enhanced strategic alliances, guiding climate-centric forums, and working with large companies to develop and implement effective decarbonization plans. His rich experience and understanding of corporate climate action are likely to play a pivotal role in assisting businesses to move from climate aspiration to actual outcomes.

EcoVadis is already renowned for its groundbreaking tools that allow companies to measure and enhance their sustainability performance. With the new addition of its Carbon Data Network (CDN) recently, the organization has gone a long way in addressing one of the most daunting challenges of decarbonization—access to consistent and reliable carbon data. CDN offers high-quality, verified primary carbon data from more than 150,000 organizations. This network aims to assist companies to better measure and monitor their Scope 3 emissions, ranging from the emissions of suppliers to manufacture products through those emitted by customers when consuming the products.

Galvin highlighted the significance of this work, saying, "EcoVadis gives organizations access to the best quality primary carbon data available in the market today and plays a critical role in driving action on meaningful emissions reduction and resilience building across the global supply chain. This role is an amazing chance to collaborate with the brightest minds in business sustainability and have an exponential impact at scale."

The timing of Galvin's appointment reflects the urgency of the climate crisis. A new survey reveals that 51% of firms are off course to meet their 2030 Scope 3 targets, even as there is broad recognition of the imperative to act. Since supply chains account for most of the emissions of many firms, having the capability to track and lower these emissions effectively is critical for attaining climate targets set under the Paris Agreement and other schemes.

Galvin's purpose will involve growing adoption and usage of EcoVadis's Carbon Data Network, facilitating cross-industry collaboration, and assisting organizations in incorporating more science-based goals into their climate strategies. In filling data gaps and promoting accountability, EcoVadis's vision is to enable businesses with the capabilities needed to make decisions better and emissions reductions at scale.

This hire is not only a change in leadership; it's a sign of EcoVadis's increased commitment to combating climate change through innovation, collaboration, and action. With the global economy struggling with the challenges of decarbonization, having experienced and visionary leaders such as Dexter Galvin at the forefront may be a turning point in the net-zero race.
