Ferrero Reports 21.7% Emissions Drop, Strengthens Supply Chain Sustainability
Ferrero Group reports a 21.7% drop in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, advances renewable energy use and ingredient traceability, and achieves over 92% recyclable packaging. The company outlines strong progress towards its 2030 sustainability goals in its latest annual report.
Ferrero Group has announced a notable advance in its sustainability plan with a 21.7% decrease in its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions for the year. With brands such as Nutella and Kinder, the Italian confectionery firm aims to cut emissions by half by 2030. Its most recent annual sustainability report laid out the advancement.
The firm said that currently 90% of the electricity consumed in its warehousing and production activities is from renewable sources. Aiming for more precise tracking, Ferrero has also started categorizing its Scope 3 emissions into non-FLAG and FLAG (Forest, Land and Agriculture).
With over 90% of main components now traceable to their starting point, supply chain openness is another field of development. 97% traceability for cocoa and palm oil as well as 94% for hazelnuts, supported by digital tracing collaborations with Sourcemap and Starling, are included here. By highlighting traceability, Ferreros' larger pledges to ethical sourcing and sustainability throughout its production processes are aided.
Another aspect of the company's environmental initiatives is packaging. Ferrero said that 92.1% of its packaging is presently made to be recyclable. It has also cut its consumption of virgin plastic and moved Nutella Plant-Based jars to 60% recycled glass.
Still a top goal for the company, food safety is still paramount; all of its facilities are now certified under the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard. These milestones show consistent advancement of the firm's strategy for balancing operational expansion with environmental sustainability.
Though difficulties such as climate change and worldwide supply chain restrictions remain, Ferreros updated sustainability performance points to a more systematic approach to emissions reduction and responsible sourcing practices. The company keeps integrating sustainability into its wider business model using data, collaborations, and renewable energy.
Ferrero is attempting to meet its 2030 climate targets without sacrificing product safety and quality by ongoing investment in emissions tracking, renewable energy, and packaging innovation. The company's environmental and supply chain goals are part of a long-term pledge to lower its carbon footprint while preserving product quality.
