Forest Green Rovers' Stadium Earns Top Sustainability Award
Forest Green Rovers, hailed by FIFA as the world's greenest football club, has secured the highest 'Outstanding' certification from A Greener Future for its home ground, The New Lawn. This is the club's fourth recognition from the organisation, placing it at the pinnacle of sustainable sports venues globally for its innovations in energy, food, waste, and community.
Football Club Leads the League in Environmental Excellence
Forest Green Rovers, a club formerly recognised by FIFA as the world's greenest, has secured the top environmental honour for its colosseum. The Gloucestershire- grounded football club's home ground, The New Field, has earned the prestigious “Outstanding” instrument from A Greener Future( AGF) in its periodic Greener Arena instrument.
This marks the fourth time the club has been conceded by AGF, placing it ahead of major transnational venues. The award highlights the club's ongoing charge to colonist innovative, sustainable results in sports, fastening on crucial areas similar as original terrain, community, energy, food, and waste. The achievement underscores how a community football club can set a global standard for environmental stewardship in the live events sector.
A Framework for a Greener Future
AGF's instrument is a rigorous, independent assessment designed to make the global event sector more sustainable. The frame evaluates venues across 11 crucial themes, including original surroundings, community impact, trip, food and libation, energy and water use, waste operation, addition, and governance.
The process involves a detailed tone- evaluation by the venue, followed by on- point visits and the submission of post- event substantiation to AGF's independent assessors. This comprehensive approach ensures that pukka venues demonstrate a genuine, measurable commitment to reducing their environmental impact and promoting social responsibility.
Inspiring a Global Movement
Dale Vince, CEO of Forest Green Rovers, said the club was proud to admit the recognition as it strives to lead the way with innovative results. “As an environmentally conscious business, we aim to inspire and educate further organisations to help cover the earth and be part of a Green Britain,” he reflected.
The club's success is part of a wider movement within the live events assiduity. Other UK venues, including Manchester's hutch Live and Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena, earned “largely confided” status, while Glasgow's OVO Hydro was certified as “confided” for the third time. Claire O'Neill, CEO of A Greener Future, confided all certified venues, stating that they give a pivotal “song distance” for artists and promoters who wish to align their events with strong environmental values.
Setting the Standard for Sustainable Sport
Forest Green Rovers' achievement at The New Field demonstrates that sustainability and high- performance sport can go hand- in- hand. By integrating green practices into every aspect of its operations — from serving a completely vegan menu to using renewable energy — the club has created a design for others to follow.
The club and all other pukka venues will be formally recognised at the International AGF Awards in February 2026. This award solidifies Forest Green Rovers' position not just as a contender on the pitch, but as the undisputed champion in the global league of sustainable sports venues.
