Gujarat leads India in renewable energy capacity, driven by strong growth in solar and wind power, says Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, on Thursday, said that Gujarat is leading India in renewable energy capacity, citing the state’s steady expansion in solar and wind power over the years.
Sanghavi said Gujarat has consistently remained ahead in renewable energy generation due to early adoption of clean energy policies and large-scale project development. He said the state has built a strong base in solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects, significantly contributing to India’s total renewable energy capacity.
He said Gujarat’s geographic conditions, particularly its long coastline and high solar potential, have supported the growth of renewable projects. He added that timely approvals, supporting infrastructure, and clear policy direction have helped attract private investment into the sector.
Sanghavi spoke about large renewable energy parks developed across the state, saying these projects have improved power availability while reducing dependence on fossil fuels. He said hybrid renewable projects, combining wind and solar power, have helped enhance grid efficiency and reliability.
He mentioned the renewable energy sector has also created employment opportunities in Gujarat. According to him, jobs have been generated not only during the construction of projects but also in operations, maintenance, and allied industries linked to clean energy development.
Sanghavi stated that Gujarat’s renewable energy growth supports India’s national goals on reducing carbon emissions and increasing the share of non-fossil fuel energy. He added that clean energy expansion is necessary as electricity demand continues to rise with economic growth.
