Serentica Renewables has pledged ₹1 lakh crore to expand renewable energy projects in Rajasthan, strengthening the state's position as a major clean energy and industrial decarbonisation hub.
Rajasthan is becoming a key state for India's clean energy revolution, as Serentica Renewables has pledged ₹1 lakh crore in investment for the state's renewable energy sector. The pledge represents a substantial increase in the company's planned investments and renewable energy capacity, further strengthening Rajasthan's position as a hub for green energy growth and industrial decarbonisation.
Already known as one of India's most promising states for solar energy, the state now has over half of Serentica's solar assets. The flagship projects are located in Bikaner and Jaisalmer, with further expansion planned in Bhadla, which is known for its massive solar park. Together, these projects form part of planned 27,000 MW renewable energy pipeline, positioning Rajasthan as a global clean energy hub.
One of the cornerstones of Serentica's strategy is providing firm and dispatchable renewable energy, meaning the power is available when it is needed. Such power is required in several hard-to-abate industrial sectors, including steel, cement and chemicals, which are high carbon-emitting industries with limited decarbonisation potential. A combination of scale, reliability and affordability will make the company a viable competitor to traditional power sources as it seeks to offer industrial partners a reliable alternative to meet evolving sustainability requirements.
The prospects for large-scale investments are supported by the availability of land, high solar radiation and policy support in Rajasthan. Such investments can not only lower the carbon footprint of industrial operations, but also provide jobs for local communities and boost their long-term economic resilience, industry analysts say.
Looking ahead, timely implementation, regulatory clarity and consistent policy backing from the state and central governments will be key factors in the success of these mega-projects. With the renewable energy sector becoming more competitive, the focus is also likely to extend to battery storage and grid integration, along with new financing structures, which are essential to support Rajasthan's clean energy transition.
