Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR, IMD issues red alert
Today morning showers bring relief from heat and humidity in Delhi-NCR. IMD forecasts thunderstorms and rain throughout the day.
Residents of Delhi and the NCR experienced much-needed relief from the heat and humidity today morning when the weather took a sudden turn, bringing heavy showers to several areas in the city. Light to moderate rain, which began late last night, cooled the atmosphere in surrounding areas and in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram as well. By sunrise, dark clouds blanketed the sky, and light drizzles added a pleasant chill to the air. While in some places the rain only left roads wet and in others it caused traffic. By considering the condition of Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert.
Today’s Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast
The IMD forecast thunderstorms and rain all day, with the intensity likely to pick up post-noon. Humidity will remain between 70% and 80%, providing relief from the sultry weather. The same kind of weather can be expected tomorrow as well. Rain has already started falling in places like Connaught Place, India Gate, Lajpat Nagar, Dwarka, and Rohini, causing traffic jams in parts of the city.
Heavy Rain in Delhi
According to IMD, due to rain in Delhi NCR the minimum temperature is expected to be around 25 degrees Celsius. The temperature on Wednesday was recorded 27 and 35 degrees Celsius respectively. As per the report issued by IMD, till Thursday 8:30 in the morning during the period of 24 hours, Safdarjung which is city’s main weather station has recorded 13.1 mm of rainfall. Talking about the other areas which has reported higher totals, Aya Nagar received 57.4 mm, Palam 49.4 mm, Lodhi Road 12 mm, Pragati Maidan 9 mm and Pusa recorded 5 mm of rainfall.
Impact of Monsoon Trough and Bay of Bengal System
Weather forecaster indicated that monsoon trough near the capital and low-pressure over the Bay of Bengal are very dominant in Delhi-NCR. Hence, light to moderate showers are expected to continue from August 13 to 16, with heavier showers on August 14 and 15. But intensity of rainfall is likely to decline after August 17.
