IWTMA and SECI discussed improving planning, grid readiness, and project execution to accelerate wind energy growth in India.

IWTMA, SECI Discuss Steps to Boost Wind Energy Growth in India

The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) recently held a meeting with Akash Tripathi, Managing Director of the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), to explore ways to accelerate wind energy deployment and strengthen India’s renewable energy ecosystem.

Discussions revolved around how the usage of areas with strong wind potential could be increased to optimise the generation process. It was also highlighted that planning had to be more effective to ensure that there was synchronization between the development and allocation phases of wind projects given their extended gestation period.

The topic of grid readiness was another key focus as the discussions centered on ensuring that access to substations was improved to cater to additional capacity requirements in windy areas. Resource adequacy planning and demand pattern analysis were also mentioned as vital to renewable energy development.

It was clear from SECI’s presentation that there would be more bidding opportunities in the near future, with Tranche XX being substantially higher in numbers than before, which suggests that India will continue to build its pipeline of renewable energy projects.

The conference also took into account the difficulties of implementation, such as delayed PPAs, among others.

Aditya Pyasi, CEO of IWTMA, said, “India’s wind energy sector is poised to play a pivotal role in achieving the country’s energy security at a time when it is at the cynosure of policy discussions across the world. Our discussions with SECI reflect a shared intent to utilise the transmission network efficiently & bring down the actual cost of power to consumers. Continued collaboration between industry and policymakers will be key to unlocking the full potential of wind energy in India.”

The interaction reflects ongoing efforts by IWTMA and SECI to strengthen coordination and support the growth of wind energy in India.
