Kia India Launches Sustainability Drive Across 500 Workshops for World Environment Day

Kia India has announced a World Environment Day programme across its workshops and corporate offices nationwide.

The programme includes vehicle emission checks, e-waste collection, staff training and tree plantation activities at various locations, according to the company.

Kia India said workshops taking part in the initiative will provide free vehicle emission checks and conduct awareness sessions on environmental issues. An e-waste collection drive will be organised at 31 locations, where workshops will act as collection centres for discarded electronic items.

The company said it expects to collect more than 1,000 kg of e-waste through the campaign.

Training sessions on the handling, storage and disposal of used oil will also be conducted for workshop personnel. The company said the programme is aimed at improving waste management practices within its service network.

As part of the campaign, tree plantation and sapling distribution activities will be carried out at selected locations. Workshops will also hold sessions on resource conservation and environmental awareness.

Kia India said energy conservation measures will be promoted across its facilities, including awareness campaigns on electricity usage and renewable energy.

According to the company, 132 workshops in its network currently use solar power systems with a combined installed capacity of 9.8 MW.

Bhimsen Gulabani, Vice President – Customer Experience, said the company's workshop network allows regular interaction with customers and can be used to share information on environmental issues.

Atul Sood, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, said environmental measures are being implemented across the company's operations, including its manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh.

The company said its Anantapur manufacturing plant has wastewater treatment and reuse systems and follows measures intended to improve energy and resource efficiency.

World Environment Day is observed each year on June 5 under the United Nations Environment Programme and is marked through environmental awareness and conservation activities worldwide.

Kia India started manufacturing operations in India in 2019 at its facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The company operates a sales and service network across more than 400 cities in the country.
