Nan, Greenmet and Silox have partnered to establish battery recycling facilities in India to recover critical minerals and support the country's growing EV and clean energy sectors.
Nan (North America Nanotechnology Systems), Greenmet and Silox have partnered to create a battery recycling ecosystem in India, which will enable the country’s growing clean energy and electric vehicle (EV) goals.
The partnership brings together expertise in advanced materials, recycling technology and industrial processing to address one of the key challenges of the energy transition: efficient and environmentally responsible battery recycling. The rapid growth of EV adoption in India has made recycled battery materials increasingly important for reducing dependence on imported raw materials and lowering the environmental impact of battery supply chains.
The partners aim to establish dedicated battery recycling facilities, which will process used lithium-ion and other rechargeable batteries, extract valuable materials, including lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese, and reintroduce these materials into the domestic production cycles. This will not only cut down on waste but also improve material security for the growing renewable energy and EV sectors.
Executives of the three companies stated that the collaboration is based on the complementary strengths of the partners: the advanced recycling technology of Nan, material recovery expertise of Greenmet and industrial scaling capabilities of Silox. The joint venture is expected to attract additional investment and support from stakeholders interested in developing circular supply chains for battery materials.
As the deployment of electric mobility and energy storage ramps up across the country, battery recycling facilities will play a key role in the sustainable development of the industry, industry analysts noted. Beyond reducing environmental impact, recycling is a step toward achieving India's climate targets by decreasing pressures on mining and enhancing resource efficiency.
The partnership is seen as supporting the Government of India's national initiatives including promoting green technologies and local manufacturing and minimising carbon footprint in many industrial areas, sources said. This joint venture can also result in job creation, technology innovation, and clean energy growth in India.
