One State, One Vision: Telangana’s New Plan for Smarter Power Supply

Telangana Chief Minister has ordered officials to start an overall energy reform plan that involves the creation of a new power distribution company (DISCOM) to enhance efficiency, dependability, and service delivery in the state's power sector.

The decision has been made in the face of mounting pressure to rationalise the distribution of electricity, handle financial distress within the current DISCOMs, and improve the quality of power supply to consumers in rural and urban areas. The decision is viewed as a key step to reorganizing the state's power infrastructure to address growing demand and aid industrial and agricultural development.

The new DISCOM, as per sources, will balance the operational load between the current Southern and Northern Power Distribution Companies and potentially target individual high-load areas or upcoming industrial corridors. The government will soon announce more about the operational ambit, financial framework, and implementation schedule.

The Chief Minister underlined that reforms are imperative to attain long-term sustainability in the industry, gradually decreasing the power subsidies, and providing unbroken power to farmers, industries, and homes alike.

This project is a part of a broader master plan to transform Telangana's energy system, connecting renewable sources, digital monitoring, and enhanced customer service infrastructure.
