Nanded Farmers to Get 100% Crop Loss Relief With ₹553 Crore Compensation, Setting New Benchmark
Maharashtra’s Nanded farmers will receive ₹553 crore in full crop-loss compensation—the state’s first 100% relief payout, setting new standards in disaster response and farmer protection.
Maharashtra’s Nanded Farmers to Receive 100% Crop Loss Compensation
In a landmark move to support Maharashtra’s agrarian sector, farmers in Nanded district will receive full compensation for recent crop losses, with payouts totalling ₹553.48 crore. Transfers began on September 22, directly credited into farmers’ bank accounts.
State Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne announced that Nanded is the first district in Maharashtra to implement 100% crop-loss compensation due to heavy rains, benefiting 7.74 lakh farmers across 648,533 hectares.
Details of the Compensation Package
-
₹8,500 per hectare for rain-fed crops
-
₹17,000 per hectare for irrigated crops
-
₹22,500 per hectare for horticulture land
Additionally, ₹20.81 crore is being distributed to farmers whose fields were damaged by siltation and erosion.
District authorities have deployed a data-driven system, uploading beneficiary details onto a government portal to ensure transparent and speedy disbursement.
Wider Context and Next Steps
Earlier this year, partial relief worth ₹73.54 crore was extended to farmers in nine other districts hit by monsoon damage.
Officials believe the success of the Nanded model will guide future compensation reforms and help extend full relief packages to other severely affected districts across Maharashtra.
