A three-year initiative has been launched in Virudhunagar district to improve healthcare access, social security coverage, and livelihood opportunities for rural women.

New Initiative Targets Health and Livelihood Gaps for Rural Women in Tamil Nadu

Omega Forum for Social Impact (OFSI), the social impact arm of Omega Healthcare, has launched a three-year development initiative focused on women’s health, social security and livelihoods in rural Tamil Nadu. The project, Building Health, Social Security and Livelihoods for Rural Women, was inaugurated on 25 February 2026 at Sri Chithanathar Thirumanamandabham, Thiruchuli, in partnership with Swasti-The Health Catalyst.

The project will be implemented in the aspirational district of Virudhunagar across the Thiruchuli and Aruppukottai blocks over three years. The initiative aims to address gaps in primary healthcare access, social protection coverage, and livelihood opportunities for rural women through a community-based approach.

The launch event was attended by representatives from the district administration, public health system, academia, corporate leadership, and farmer collectives.

Sunanda, CEO, Omega Forum for Social Impact (OFSI), stated that women’s empowerment plays an important role in community development, noting that women often reinvest resources and opportunities into their families and communities.

Narayanan V, Senior Vice President – RM, Omega Healthcare, referred to Virudhunagar’s history of social development and education, mentioning its association with K. Kamaraj.

Antony Eapen, Director – HRBP, Omega Healthcare, said the three-year project reflects collaboration among corporates, communities, and women’s groups.

Over three years, the project aims to improve access to basic healthcare services for 30,000 women, support 22,500 women in accessing government welfare schemes such as health insurance and pensions, and promote livelihood opportunities for 150 women through goat rearing with training and financial support mechanisms. The initiative will also link women’s groups with Meshavaram Agricultural Producer Company Limited to support collective enterprise and local leadership.

The project focuses on improving access to services and livelihood opportunities for rural women in Virudhunagar district.
