Piramal Pharma Reports 6% Cut in Scope 1 & 2 Emissions

Piramal Pharma, on Wednesday, reported a 6% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions on year-on-year basis. “With our Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated commitments guiding the way, we are working steadily toward our goal of reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030, using 2022 as the baseline,” said Peter DeYoung CEO, Global Pharma.

He added, “these targets mark a critical step in aligning our decarbonisation strategy with global climate imperatives.”

To address Scope 3 emissions, which are indirect emissions arising from activities across our value chain, the company has mentioned in the Sustainability Report 2024-25, that it has introduced a Sustainable Supply Chain initiative, which focuses on engaging closely with the suppliers to support them in adopting their own emission reduction strategies through active collaboration. “Sustainability is no longer a distant goal — it’s a strategic imperative. By accelerating our transition to renewable energy, low-carbon fuel and smart energy systems, we are not only reducing emissions but reshaping the future of responsible manufacturing,” said Mayank Mattu Senior Vice President and Global Head – Engineering and Projects

In FY2025, company’s renewable energy consumption increased by 7.8% over the previous year, with 20.1% of our total energy now sourced from bioenergy.  “Sustainability is not an option for Piramal Pharma, it's our fundamental belief and right thing to do for customers, innovation and growth,” said Ganesh Tripathy Senior Vice President and Global Head – Sustainability and EHS

Through an integrated approach combining initiatives like rainwater harvesting, recycling and reuse, during this financial year, the company saved over 2.10 Lakh kilolitres of freshwater. In parallel, under the waste management strategy, it has achieved zero hazardous waste to landfill by diverting waste to co-processing routes. “We are also pushing forward on non-hazardous waste, with a target to recycle 90% of it. Our commitment to biodiversity is reflected in green belt development and plantation of over 2000 saplings across sites, maintaining more than 30% green cover in Indian operations,” said Nandini Piramal, Executive Director and Chairperson.
