Vedanta Aluminium Targets 30% Renewable Energy and Zero Harm to Environment
Vedanta Aluminium’s FY 2024–25 report highlights its move toward 30% renewable energy, zero workplace fatalities, and support for over 2.5 million people through sustainability programs.
Vedanta Aluminium has released its Sustainable Development Report for FY 2024–25, which shows the company’s efforts in in protecting the environment, keep workforce safety, follow ethical governance, and community development. The company follows all the nine principles of the National Guidelines on Responsible Business Conduct (NGRBC) and global ESG standards such as GRI, TCFD, and the UN SDGs.
Environmental Performance
Vedanta Aluminium is working on several green innovation to reduce pollution and protect the environment. The company is more focused on the usage of clean energy, reduction of emissions, and circular economy integration. Vedanta targets to get 30% of its total energy from renewable sources like solar and wind power. More than 100% of fly ash waste, a by-product from its plants, is managed for reuse by sending it to other industries, it reduced waste and saved resources.
The company is also planting local species of trees and conducting projects for the reduction of carbon from the atmosphere with the help of environmental experts and studies related to the ecosystem. Vedanta strictly adheres to international environmental standards through an ISO 14001:2015-certified Environmental Management System and regularly checks the quality of air, water, and soil with regard to noise through internal and external audits. Regarding saving and recycling water, the company has reported zero water-related problems in FY 2024–25.
Employee Welfare and Safety
Vedanta Aluminium maintained zero fatalities during FY 2024–25 and recorded a very low Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) of 0.13 for employees. To make safety training more effective, Vedanta has created Safety Park and launched Project Sankalp, which uses virtual reality and augmented reality technology to train workers. This strengthened workforce to handle risky situations in a safe and controlled environments.
The company also uses modern digital tools to improve safety such as AI-based T-Pulse surveillance, fatigue monitoring systems, and IoT-enabled conveyor interlocks that automatically stop machines in case of danger.
All employees are covered under the Health and Safety Management System, and during the year, the company provided more than 3 lakh hours of safety training. Employee satisfaction level reached 77%, and 100% of employees received performance reviews.
Governance and Ethical Practices
Vedanta Aluminium follows strong rules to run its business in a fair, transparent and responsible way. The company has an ESG Committee made up of board members, with 50% independent representation. The committee meets twice a year to check company’s progress on sustainability goals and ensure accountability.
Vedanta also has a strict Code of Business Conduct and Ethics (CBCE) that does not permit any kind of bribery, corruption, and anti-competitive practices. During the FY 2024–25, corruption-risk checks were completed for 100% of the operations. All employees were provided with training on ethics and human rights.
The company also don’t allow funding to political parties until and unless it is approved legally, and it maintained full transparency by publishing tax details every year. Similarly, Vedanta follows the UN Global Compact principles and gets its sustainability data verified by auditors to ensure accuracy and trust.
CSR and Community Development
Vedanta Aluminium has supported more than 2.5 million families through various social development projects focused on education, health, skill development, and women’s empowerment. Some of its initiatives include mobile health units, women’s self-help group capacity building, and livelihood training for rural youth. The company carries out these initiatives mainly in the areas such as Jharsuguda, Lanjigarh, and BALCO. The company’s “Proud Parents”, helps employees and their families stay connected and involved in the company, building trust and transparency.
