Addressing the gathering, Narendra Modi said his visit to the Northeast is always marked by extraordinary warmth and belonging. He emphasized that today marks a milestone for a developed Assam and India, with projects worth nearly ₹18,000 crore allocated to the state.
He highlighted Assam’s key role in strengthening India’s energy capabilities, noting that petroleum products from the state contribute significantly to national growth. Referring to the newly inaugurated bamboo-based bio-ethanol plant and the polypropylene unit, he said these projects will boost industrial growth, create opportunities for farmers and youth, and accelerate Assam’s development.
Modi emphasized India’s progress in renewable energy, from ranking low in solar power a decade ago to now being among the global top five. Stressing the importance of alternative fuels, he said bamboo-based ethanol production will directly benefit farmers and tribal communities, with arrangements for steady bamboo supply, bamboo chipping units, and an annual spend of around ₹200 crore in the sector.
He recalled how restrictions on bamboo cutting once hampered tribal communities, while the current government’s reforms have unlocked new opportunities in green energy. Speaking on the polypropylene plant, he said it will strengthen the foundation of Make in Assam and Make in India, supporting diverse industries from textiles to automobiles.
The Prime Minister also underlined Assam’s growing role in the Semiconductor Mission, with a ₹27,000 crore plant under construction in Morigaon, alongside major initiatives in connectivity, health, and heritage restoration.
Concluding his address, he noted the government’s focus on inclusive development, ranging from land rights under Mission Basundhara to welfare of tea garden workers—and affirmed that Assam is entering a new era as a major hub for trade, tourism, and energy self-reliance.
