On Thursday, the Union government announced its interest in developing the region with a grand opening of multiple development opportunities in Daman, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was personally present to mark the occasion, highlighting the Union government's thrust on regional development, infrastructure expansion and the quality of life of people in Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.

The Prime Minister posted a few snippets of the event on social media platform X and thanked the people of Daman for their warm reception, while reiterating the Centre's engagement on inclusive growth. The NDA government has consistently focused on the development of the region, and there had been some tangible developments in the public amenities and living standard, he said.

PM Narendra Modi praised the region's strong focus on cleanliness especially when it came to the preparation of the programme for the inauguration. At the same time Swachhata initiatives have a multiplier effect which has been observed to have a positive effect in other fields like healthcare, tourism and overall civic health, he said. He stated that cleanliness-driven development is playing an important role in determining the sustainable urban and rural ecosystems.

The Prime Minister also touched upon some serious national issues and spoke about the resilience of India in times of global uncertainty. As the country's various indices demonstrate, a collective effort by 140 crore citizens has helped the nation cope with the challenges of the world and remain on the development path, he said.

The Prime Minister also noted that there was tremendous scope for development in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, saying that the government was committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the people through development initiatives.

Referring to social-sector achievements, he said NFHS data highlights the positive outcomes of flagship health programmes such as Ayushman Bharat. Empowering youth through education, guidance, and skills, was also emphasised, so that they can access international opportunities.

The inauguration marks another step towards strengthening regional infrastructure, long-term economic growth and social development.
