PM Modi lauds Sikkim’s rich biodiversity, calls Orchidarium visit inspiring for conservation and sustainability efforts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Orchidarium in Gangtok on Tuesday during his Sikkim visit, calling the experience "mesmerising" as he walked through its collection of rare and exotic orchids.
Walking through the facility's display of rare and exotic orchids, PM described the experience as "mesmerising," and used the occasion to speak about Sikkim's remarkable biodiversity and what it represents for the country's relationship with nature.
"Initiatives like these are vital," he said, pointing to the role such spaces play in preserving unique plant species and building public awareness around conservation.
He later took to X to reiterate the sentiment, saying that places like the Orchidarium do more than protect the environment — they inspire people to treat conservation as a way of living, not just a policy goal.
The visit fits into a broader pattern of the government drawing attention to India's natural heritage and eco-tourism potential — with Sikkim, given its extraordinary ecological richness, making for a particularly compelling case.
