Power & Energy Sector Poised for Workforce Expansion: Report

Power and Energy Sector Sees Huge Spike in Recruitment Need

The energy and power sector is seeing a rapid growth in hiring demands, with over 60% of businesses expecting to increase the number of employees they hire. The hiring boom is fueled by growing trends in sustainability, power grid evolution, and energy efficiency. The hiring boom is fueled by a colossal Indian government funding program aimed at integrating the country's power infrastructure and addressing projected future demand.

A report by TeamLease Services, titled Employment Outlook Report for HY2 (October 2024 - March 2025), presents the fact that 63% of the power and energy sector businesses are going to hire additional personnel to their positions in the next few months. The hiring is part of a general transition towards meeting government policy and international movements towards green energy.

Government's Investment Plan to Boost Energy Infrastructure

The Indian government has unveiled an investment program of Rs 9.15 lakh crore (USD 109.5 billion) to upgrade the nation's energy infrastructure. The investment is targeted with a vision to have the country reach the estimated demand of 458 gigawatts (GW) of power by 2032. The approach is geared towards bolstering the national power grid and boosting energy security.

Such an investment is consistent with India's vision of net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 and renewable sources of electricity contributing to 50% of all electricity in India by 2030. Indrastry targets have created the growth in demand for skilled manpower, and the demand has fueled competitive recruitment.

Emerging Demand for Skilled Manpower

Although organizations in the power and energy sector want to tap into these emerging opportunities, they are attempting to build their teams with professionals who have expertise in renewable energy, smart grid technologies, and energy efficiency. Engineering positions continue to be in demand, with 63% of companies seeking to hire within this field. Salespeople are also being hired, with 61% of companies seeking to recruit within this field.

ICT specialists account for 48% of employment demand in the industry, a reflection of the increasing role of digital technologies in power grid transformation and energy efficiency.

The need for renewable energy specialists, energy efficiency consultants, and smart grid analysts is increasing as well because companies tie their strategies to clean energy and sustainability objectives. They play a pivotal role in helping India transition to a low-carbon economy and try to diversify its energy mix.

Key Hiring Locations

The report also provides the geographical spread of recruitment demand in the power and energy industry. Amongst existing workplaces, Bengaluru takes the lead, with 51% of the city's companies intending to increase employees. Other cities with high growth in employment are Coimbatore and Bhopal, both at 50%.

The increasing job markets of Vadodara, Vishakhapatnam, and Bhopal are also experiencing more recruitment, with 21%, 17%, and 15% of the companies in these cities respectively adding more people.

This change towards the new markets reflects the boost in the power and energy industry not restricted to well-developed metropolitan areas but extending towards other areas too. Firms will be ready to cultivate a geographically more spread-out talent pool for the purpose of serving national purposes of energy growth.

Key Industries and Positions Driving Staffing Needs

The power and energy industry is experiencing recruitment in multiple positions with an emphasis on technical and engineering personnel. With heightened focus on energy transition and sustainability, jobs related to renewable energy, energy efficiency consulting, and smart grid analysis are being sought.

Engineering professionals who possess these skills are being hired by businesses to implement clean power programs and retro-fit power grids. Sales experts are also part of this growth, as businesses are looking to increase their consumer base and sell energy-efficient services.

With the industry adopting digital technologies and smart grids, the need for ICT experts is sure to increase in the next few months. They will be responsible for spearheading the process of upgrading power infrastructure so that businesses can address the issue of a changing energy environment.

Conclusion

The energy and power industry will see gigantic growth in the coming months with the support of government's aggressive plans and a growing focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. Industry players are planning to boost their staff strength with engineering, sales, and ICT jobs among the most desirable slots. As India becomes increasingly a low-carbon economy, the industry's demand for professionals will only grow, presenting plenty of scope for employment seekers and business development.
